I have been off meds for a month(Sulphasalazine) and changing to MTX soon.
In last few days have experienced spasms in R hand.. totally new for me.. although hands fairly deformed?
Related to RA??
Any ideas??
Thanks

Really strange this came up today I have experienced this before but yesterday was the worst I've ever had it. I was with my sister when all of a sudden my right hand went into spasm my hand looked strangely deformed as if they were pulling into the left my sister said it looked discoloured and strange looking. The ones before have been shorter lived and usually only one finger, I don't know why but I've never actually thought about why it was happening although Ive recently had a flare first in a long time in my hip and shoulder for which I had an steroid injection . I'm on sulphazalizine and benepali. I probably should have mentioned it to the rhematologist but unfortunately never have. I have though assumed they are rheumatoid related.
Hi, I used mtx for about 10 years which worked well with injections. Had the usual nausea/dizzy side effects but no spasms in the hands. Hope you get on OK with it, it certainly helped me.
👍👍
I still get the spasms despite my joints being so much better on Imraldi (adalumimab) injections. If anything they have got worse and I think they may well be connected to the problems that I have with nerve root pressure in the neck. The spasm is remarkably similar to spasms I get in the sciatic distribution in the left leg (mostly). In the upper limb it occurs in the distribution of C6/7/8 on the right side.
Hi 13lab sorry I've not experienced any hand spasms just loss of use & swelling with the RA & they are also deformed with large knuckles. Taking Methotrexate hasnt affected me particularly apart from maybe my tum on the day after I take it. Hope you get you're hands sorted soon.
