Yes. raised glucose levels are a well known side effect of steroid injections. I try not to have them

I’ve been tapering down off prednisone, which I was put on at Christmas for a serious flare. I’m a diabetic also and my blood sugars went quite high! My Gp put me on Gliclazide which helped bring my sugars back down, although he warned me to check my bloods before driving due to it potentially going too low. I was okay and I think the lowest I had was 4.2. It might be worth talking to your Gp about this.

Yes. Depomedrone and prednisolone both raise blood glucose levels. I'm diabetic type 1 and if I have to take steroids I check my blood more frequently and inject extra insulin to compensate.

Hi, have you ever had the depomedrone IM injection in the bottom? I am trying to find out how long the high blood sugars last for?

Yes a few times. It varies but on average I would say 3 to 5 days.

that's great thanks, it sounds a shorter period for the BG sugars than taking prednisalone tablets, please could you tell me how long the IM depomedrone anti inflammatory effect lasted for?

I have been told anything from 3 weeks to 6-8 weeks, I am trying to find out what is the norm because I need it to bridge a 6 week gap for meds to take effect. my rheumy has only offered a 3 week tablet course which will result in 3 weeks of high blood sugars, I don't think 3 weeks of prednisolone is enough as a bridge so maybe the IM injection would be better..especially for my BG sugars and maybe the IM injection will last longer ??
