Has anyone taken the Covid anti-viral meds?

I reported my positive test online this morning and have just been called by the nurse at the local hospital to triage me. They are sending the tablets by courier later this afternoon.

Hi. I had them last February - couriered to my address within 12 hours - and recovered within four days and tested negative within seven. Was given Paxlovid, no side effects apart from a very metallic and unpleasant taste which went as soon as the five days was over of taking the pills . Hope you have the same good experience.

The NHS really came up trumps as I am significantly immune suppressed and could have been really ill but I wasn’t due to the care of my GP and the system which worked! Feel better soon and good luck with your recovery.

Thank you, that’s so good to hear. I’m glad they worked well for you. To be honest I’m amazed at the speed of it all x

Hope you're not feeling too bad. I've taken Paxlovid twice for Covid. On balance I think it helped me recover more quickly and the only side effects were foul taste in my mouth and a little upset tummy, though second time I think I could have easily managed without them. Is there anything specific you want to know?

I’m not feeling too bad now, it’s like a bad cold. To be honest, my head is fuzzy so I’m incapable of thinking of much.

How were you feeling when the anti virals arrived?

The first time I had them, in October, my breathing had started to get quite bad on the day they arrived. My SATS had dropped to 92 and I was feeling pretty awful so I was glad to get the antivirals - though the courier showed up 3 hours late when I had just taken myself to bed (and had no clothes on because I was burning up!). Within 24 hours I had more energy and I was testing negative a few days later.

The second time (my third time of getting Covid) the illness was so mild - like a bad cold, that I sort of decided I wouldn't bother with them. But I registered the test result in case things took a turn for the worse and the GP contacted me anyway. She was quite keen on me taking the antivirals so I did. I've had lingering chest problems since this one though, even though it was overall milder, so perhaps it was best to take them.

Thank you, that’s all very helpful to know. I was in 2 minds as I feel so much better today but have decided to roll with it and take them.

I'm so glad to hear others have had the same experience with the tablets. I was told to yellow card it. I hope you haveall done the same. It worked, but first time, I had the drug infusion, and that worked better.

Hi, yup. I had antivirals this past weekend. I had the IV due to other issues but wow. Incredible. I got so sick from Covid so fast. No one else in the house even got Covid which was a wake up call on its own!

I was starting to get very sick by the Saturday night but the antivirals completely stopped the Covid in its tracks. I am so grateful to have got it and can’t recommend highly enough!

Only side effect from Remdesivir - really itchy gums??!!

By the time the meds arrived I was already over the worst symptoms of Covid. I took them for 2 days but felt worse on them , so stopped. The horrible taste was so bad it was keeping me awake at night. I tested negative after 6 days and had no complications. I hope you feel better soon.

I had Covid a year ago, Feb 2022, but the letter saying I qualified for antivirals didn't arrive until Feb 2023, so no I didn't have any. Hope you feel well soon.

yes I had them at Christmas last year. They do help me get over a really awful bout of Covid but they made me so nauseous. I was too ill to ring for the anti nausea drugs they had said I could ask for. If I were you I’d ask for them at the same time. The nausea was awful & constant. Good luck,

I had covid last July, phoned my doctor who contacted the hospital, had a phone call from them asking what I had wrong with me and what meds I was on. Bronciactsis, asthma and ra, was told no need for anti viral as I was on mtx injections, told to start me rescue pack co-amoxiclave for 14 days.

I was monitored on a virtual ward for 14 day. Was text twice day to send reading in to them, I.e. Temp. Oxygen level. Pulse and blood pressure. If there were any problems with the reading then would contact me.

Hi Blueskysunshine, I took covid just prior to Christmas 2022. I am severely Immune Supprested. I was offered Anti-Virals and I must say "without this drug, I don't know if I would have pulled through". Life Saver. I wish you lots of strength to pull through this. X

I had paxlovid in January this year. The diarrhoea side effects were just awful to the point that I was very dehydrated so I rang the covid ward and was told to stop them. I recovered after 9 days then after 5 days of being negative I tested positive again maybe down to the antivirals or maybe not ? Hope you feel better soon and don’t have to cope with side effects although horrid metallic taste is par for the course.

Hi, I was quite ill when I had COVID and was prescribed the anti virals straight away. Within 2 hours my headache had lifted , next day my sore throat, earache had gone. And within a couple of days I was back to normal apart from a slight cough. I would highly recommend them , and had no side effects at all.

Yes they shortened the illness time to 6 days for me and I would have been awful without them as it was bad enough with them x get well soon x
