Itchy then rash
if you really scratch you will get marks like that, RA or not. Stop scratching 😁
Being a very itchy person I sympathise. I find that using a really good moisturiser soothes my skin and reduces the risk of a lurgy-like rash
I do mainly when on high steroids or could it be allergic.to something?
Generalised itching can be a sign of liver issues, so may be worth getting a bloods done. If it’s one specific area, possibly a reaction to something. However if you do keep itching you will get marks like this, as you damage fragile capillaries under the surface.
husband had this - now off methotrexate - make sure your blood tests not showing any liver issues - he now has gabapentin plus Fexofenodine via a dermatologist- the combination of these two drugs seems to keep it at bay - dermatologist felt it was related to his Dmard use which had affected his immune system - he tried many many creams to get rid of it but it isn’t topical it’s from inside hence the medication - hope you get it sorted as it can really ruin your quality of life
I get something similar, it is like blood that has come up to the surface. I get it when I itch or sometimes from a knock or even material causing slight friction against my skin. I have had it for years and shown it to my med team and no one knows what it is. I tend to get it mainly in the areas of my RA on my arms . They just put it down to trauma as the area is vulnerable. If you find anything out I would love to know what it is. Best wishes
Same as me, and it is quite unsightly. Hopefully you will get an answer for us both! x
Thanks I will ask when I see my next Rheumatologist
Hi Trace you don’t mention drugs, steroids thin the skin & can irritate causing itching, doesn’t take much to get itchy, then scratch & marks as a result. If nothing to do with steroids then check out bloods etc as others mentioned..,
Hi I get this now if I'm in a too hot of a bath shower or jacuzzi. Never used to, but I break out in hives or bumps that are very itchy! Usually on my ankles and elbow upper arms. Sitting in the sun too long can trigger it as well. I don't take any medication at this time. This is really no fun. I tried a antihistamine, but it didn't really help.
I sometimes get a red, itchy rash. Usually on my outer elbow, shins and calves area in patches. For me I’ve linked it to a intolerance of something which I’ve had too much of! Chocolate and alcohol are two of my usual triggers.
Think it's worth checking they might need to check your bloods xx
