Taken off all meds.

Saw very nice Rheumatologist Wednesday who changed all my meds back to the ones I previously had with no side effects, wonderful!

Also am on, was on, Rivaoxaban and Bisoporol for DVT and AF as I'm a very healthy 81yr old lol 😂.

Thursday got leg swelling and pain, ended up in hospital day unit for bloods, x-rays , scans, drips in both arms.

They found I have yet another DVT clot in leg and infections in both legs. I have to go back in tomorrow Monday, for further scans and deep Doppler tests.

The consultant has taken me off ALL my meds for at least 2 months, and I'm back to injecting my belly with heparin daily and on a hefty antibiotic dose.

I can take paracetamol but that's it.

Just hoping that the RA or the Osteo or both!! Don't decide to have some fun until hopefully this lot of falling apart syndrome is under control.

Has anyone else had similar need to withdraw from meds? Will it mean starting from scratch again

Thanks

Hi Ernie. I am so sorry you are in this situation. We are all different and react differently to each situation but I once had to stop mxt for 8 weeks while undergoing tests and I did have a massive flare which was treated with 3 days of steroid injections. I was allowed back on mxt at the same strength and my flare was soon under control. I hope you don't get a flare but there are injections to help you if you do. I love your little dog.

Hi Ernie, the longest I have been off meds is three weeks so I can’t help directly I’m afraid, but just wanted to say I hope you feel better soon 🤗

what a worry! I had to stop all meds recently for other reasons - had a massive flare quickly but had steroid jab to tide me over. Hope your DVTS are soon sorted

So sorry, Ernie52, that you are currently going through the mill. Healthy or not, 81 is an awful time to go through those problems. That you stopped your meds is no surprise. Your rheumy team will decide whether you recommence, or change, your meds once the emergency is over.

All meds, unfortunately, have side-effects of some kind or the other, but you do seem to have reacted badly - clots and the anti-biotics for the infection demand time.

My experience has been to stop taking drugs for even a minor infection - but once the infection has responded to the antibiotic, I have restarted the same meds. I've never experienced clots in legs, which I would be more concerned about. Listen to your doctors. Don't take risks. And do respect your age!

Good luck!
