Hi I have started injections when my dose was increased to 25 mg after a year taking 20mg tablets. Done three weeks and no better yet. Is it normal for your leg to bruise at the injection site in the days following ? Maybe I pressed too hard last time?
Methotrexate injections : Hi I have started injections... - NRAS
Methotrexate injections
I tend to do mine in my tummy, very occasionally get a bruise but only if I hit a vein. When I inject the top of my legs, it doesn’t bruise but the skin definitely was discoloured and that lasted for months. The tummy doesn’t seem to mark at all.
I do mine in my leg (I do my biologic in my stomach) and I bleed most of the time and bruise occasionally.
I prefer to inject into top of left leg as neck fusion prevents me from 'seeing' to inject into stomach. I often bruise and/or get a slight bleed, but nothing much. It's difficult to do it perfectly every week.
I also find stomach does not bruise in the way the leg did. At last a benefit of my spare tyre!
I got discoloured patches on my leg so moved to injecting my tummy instead. Much better, less sting and only occasional bruises if I hit a vein accidentally.
I pressed too hard on one I did shortly after changing to injections, it bruised and took ages to go, this was on the top of the leg, I inject my biologic into my stomach without any problems, so I’m extra careful now with using the tops of my legs for Mtx. I’m only on 7.5. X
I was taught to inject into my tum but years ago I read that some here inject into their thigh so I tried it. The result was not only bruising but it wasn't painless so didn't do that again. I learnt afterwards that you should relax the leg, not have it bent, & I probably didn’t so that might not have helped. I can periodically bruise on my tum but that's hitting a blood vessel. After so many years I just accept it now but it can be quite alarming how big they can be!
You'll get used to injecting quickly & pressing just enough to release the needle so don't worry.
