Had a few suggestions of supplements I could take which will help me dealing with my arthritis. These were
Cod liver oil capsules- great for taking care of your joints
Glucosamine and Condroitin - also great for taking care of your joints .
Finally Coenzyme Q10 which improves your energy levels and can help with fatigue but you might want to check with your GP OR Rheumatology service for any incompatibility with your current medication. Just a thought Ben

Hiya Ben, welcome. I hope you find it helpful being here, though sorry you've been diagnosed &have the need!
Just I’d mention maybe consider changing cod liver oil to omega 3 fish oil, if you don't get enough naturally in your diet of course (2 servings of fish, oily fish better, or enough nuts or seeds). CLO is typically extracted from cod, less beneficial in Omega 3 than O3FO which is typically from oily fish higher in Omega 3, mackerel, tuna, sardine, herring. Omega 3 is thought to ease inflammation, tenderness & morning stiffness.
Glucosamine/Chondroitin may be more helpful for osteoarthritis rather than RD. Some say it helps pain but I’m not sure, but then I was advised not to take it as I have a history of heart disease on both sides of my family. Which is something else to consider, they may be supplements & often considered safe but always check with your Specialist before trying any. Not all supplements are equal either, unlike meds they can vary considerably from brand to brand. Also take care in strength/dosing as that can not only make a difference in potential side effects it can make a difference to your pocket. Well meaning friends often suggest things we can take thinking they're helping but yes, it's always best to discuss anything being considered, other than your prescribed meds, with your Rheumy, including if ok'd the better dosage for you.
I've never taken Coenzyme Q10 even though it can help heart health by way of potentially reducing LDL so I don't feel qualified to comment but a Rheumy will I'm sure.
Just some thoughts, take them as you wish but it's always good to share experiences & results as that way we learn more about what may help from one another. 😊
I completely agree I have both although the Osteo is only in my knees and rheumatoid is in all my joints. They are very different although the Osteoarthritis is causing me more issues than the rheumatoid arthritis.
i also was told to avoid CLO but go for omega 3, B12,. and gluco/chondro. I also take an over 70s vitamin mix which inc magnesium, selenium etc [healthspan was recommended dr. buddy] not GP
Change your cod liver capsules to omega three fish oils instead as cod is known for bottem feeding and they eat the rubbish. The fish oils are a better choice. xxx
Hi and welcome Ben. I agree with nomoreheels re switching fish oil to Omega 3 for added benefits. I would just urge people to check with their nhs professionals first if considering supplements. Although these are easily purchase OTC they can still interact with meds we take. CoQ10 interacts with blood thinners like warfarin and clopidogrel, making the meds less effective and increasing the risk of clots. Turmeric is another supplement that can be dangerous and interact with meds taken for blood pressure, diabetes, blood thinners as well as nsaids. I take clopidogrel and was advised by a rep it was safe to take a medicinal turmeric with it. I ended up covered in bruises as my blood was taking too long to clot. When I researched it myself, I found I had been wrongly advised. Many of the supplements use the same enzyme CYP3A4, to metabolise, as 50% of the meds we take. This then has the potential to enhance or inhibit the effects of the drug. This results in either the medication clearing quickly leaving lower levels and making the medication less effective, or can slow clearance, resulting in toxic levels of your medication. For this reason we should discuss any potential supplements we are considering with our health professionals. My GP said I was lucky as the turmeric could havd caused severe internal bleeding. So I learned a lesson never to trust the answers from others but to do my own research. I am not against supplements but I do think people assume they are safe to take due to how accessible they are.
I Was perscribed blood preasure tablets and blood thinners. I always took omega 3 fish oil , which was really good. But I didn't realise it is a natural blood thinner. I had to stop taking it
Hi, I take ginger in powder form and addit to various foods, also have a small glass of ginger wine on a regular basis and take cider vinegar mixed with fruit juice and honey. These seem to help me. Different things work for different people. Good luck.🐕🐕
My gp says vitamin d ( in spray form if poss) is the best supplement. Its the one thing we can't get enough of through diet and we don't get enough sunlight to get it there either, especially in winter. Its particularly good to take it if on mtx appaz ?
