I have OA in my right knee and in the past used a small cushion about 8x6 ins under the knee or placed it between both knees if sleeping on your side (but be careful It doesn’t push your knees apart too much as this can affect your hip alignment my physio told me) so the cushion mustn’t be a plump one! Or try a rolled hand towel but that may not be so soft and as comfy.

I was going to say a cushion as well as only thing that helped me plus biofreeze on mine before I go to bed as well.

I always find putting on gels before bed like fysiogel or heat gels plus a good massage helps it settle. I do take pain relief to ease it before I settle down. You can buy long length hot water bottles on sites like Amazon that help mine too.

Have you seen the ask arthritis site too which specialises in osteo arthritis ?

Hi. I got one of these which works a treat. You can use the velcro strap to keep it in place. I also have OA in my R knee.. I use it under my knee for support when lying down. It raises the knee which takes the pain off.. Deep heat also helps… much better than piroxicam gel. It is just the right height for me. Higher and it hurts, lower and it hurts!

I have a cushion similar to that which my friend bought me as my knees hurt when they rub together when I sleep.

This has been happening to me the last 2 months. My right knee locks at night & I'm unable to move my leg. It's so painful!

Sometimes your scared to go to bed , because you know the pain will come just hope it goes as quick as it came. Hope yours gets better . Mine as been playing up since late December. Maybe these flares are coursed by stress

I use a cushion too It’s the only thing that helps No one realises how painful it can be, I sympathise with you x

Good morning Murrymint49, for some strange reason my rescue moggy Bella often likes to sleep on my osteoarthritic knee. I also use a heat pad and/or a hot water bottle which seems to help.🐕🐕

You need to put a soft pillow under knee lie on side with knee slightly bent 👍

That’s why I always do, on my side and with a small cushion, but Murraymint said he/she can’t sleep on their side. 🤨

Hello, I have OA in my right knee and lower back, a few years ago I had some hydrotherapy sessions. I think stress plays a part too cause it was near the time that my Dad was dying of cancer, my knee is i nflammed permanently but very little pain. I know this hasn't helped with the sleeping but I was just wondering if this would help a little? ☺

Thankyou, what does hydrotherapy involve. And where would I get it done. Sounds promising

Hello, sorry only just seen this reply. I had a fall a few days ago, went over on my ankle so been shut off a bit😅 I was referred to hydrotherapy by my GP to help with OA, it was marvellous😊

It involves doing exercises in a hydrotherapy pool, temperature of 28 degrees I believe, a physiotherapist assist in the type of exercises best suited to you👍
