My husband got that when he tested positive a couple of weeks ago - then it turned out he responded too late or something and the offer was withdrawn. I got the impression they only wanted a certain number if people and they had met their quota.Never did figure out what it was all about.

I did, but was told it was pot luck whether I'd get them - turned out I was one of the unlucky ones! Consequently, I came out the study! 🧐

It works by causing mutations to disrupt the virus - I'd be very careful about what you sign up for here, as there is a lack of safety data, and side effects data - they may well be doing the safety testing on the general public.

Andy, unless I’ve misunderstood something, the drugs being used in the panoramic study are exactly the same ones that people here that are automatically entitled to antivirals due to their RD meds are already receiving. It’s not medication trials, as in testing new meds, it’s a trial to work out who benefits most from receiving the existing - already tested - antivirals outside of those that we know should have them due to clinical immunosuppression. That’s why it’s only open to those with existing health conditions and/or over the age of 50 i.e. people already at higher risk of severe illness or death. I doubt national charities that deal with health conditions would be encouraging people to sign up if it was a genuine guinea pig recruitment drive.

It’s also worth pointing out that all new medications have limited safety and side effect data on being licensed. That’s completely normal, and happens entirely as a result of being new. Depending on the disease being targeted, some drugs are licensed for use and prescribed to the public having been tested on less than 500 people worldwide. The phase 3 study for paxlovid, which is just one of the 4 antiviral drugs being used for covid treatment, involved almost 1300 people being given it. Compared to the 12 people that did in the placebo arm, no one that took it died. That’s in addition to all the people that have had ritonavir (one of the elements of paxlovid) in previous studies, as it’s a repurposed drug rather than a completely new one. It’s been in use in HIV since 1998, so actually has a really well established safety and side effect profile.

6 weeks ago I tested positive and asked for access to antiviral drugs. I have RA and take methotrexate, Amgevita biologic and hydroxychloroquin. The antiviral helped to clear up my covid within 6 days but did give me a VERY upset tummy and left a strange taste in my mouth- but only during the 5 days I was taking them. I’m not certain but think these tablets are the same ones being used on the trial.

I had the same offer, was unsure what to do but when I followed the link they had no doses available. I checked with the NHS clinician who called me and prescribed the anti viral, she said same as Charlie G. It is is the exact same medication but NHS only offer very exact criteria patients but the Panoramic offers to a much wider range to study effectiveness on various age groups and those not as vulnerable. I have used and experienced far less symptoms than my husband. Was grateful to receive it.

Thanks everyone for replying, I didn’t go along with the study, I’ve been given antivirals from my docter instead. Let’s hope they help. Thanks again to everyone that took the time to reply.
