Tested positive for COVID now on antiviral.

Being on Cimzia I've had 5 vaccinations. On Saturday evening however I started to feel unwell, bit of tickle in my throat and a cough. Didn't feel too good overnight and breathing was a bit more of an effort than normal, so wasn't surprised when the LFD was positive. Phoned the NHS Grampian Covid number and answered a few questions and was told I would get a call back from one of the pharmacy team.

The call came a couple of hours later and after a lengthy discussion of my current medication it was agreed that I would be prescribed Paxlovid. The prescription was sent to a local pharmacy but being Sunday wouldn't be able to be collected until Monday. Was advised that I if had any concerns I was to call 111 or 999. My wife passed away on Hogmanay so I'm now on my own. I thought it would make sense to get a bag ready in case I had to go to hospital. Much easier to organise things when I was fit than when I was struggling. My bedroom is downstairs, going upstairs to get stuff was an effort.

My sister picked it up for me on Monday and I had the first dose at 10.30. That morning I was feeling like I had a really bad cold. My chest was a little uncomfortable. I felt quite tired and had a couple of snoozes during the day.

This morning I woke up feeling a bit better still a bit tired but breathing and my chest is easier. Only side effect from the Paxlovid seems to be an odd taste in my mouth.

I was thankful for the antivirals which the hospital sent out by courier straightaway. I was also referred to the virtual covid ward and had to text my oxygen levels to them twice daily for 10 days. The only covid symptom I had was slightly short of breath but as I'd just come back from being around people for 4 days and taxi drivers best to cheek. Positive even wearing masks. My husband didn't catch it at all. You're right the taste is grim. Hope you get well soon

Glad you got your meds. It's rather a shock to get that positive result especially if you're on your own. The meds do seem to be doing the trick thank goodness.

I wish it were that easy here to get antivirals. After finally getting through to 111 they got a clinician to phone me back. She said something about being out of timeframe now and another clinician would phone me but doesn't know when as they are very busy.

Personally I had 2 covid jabs and then never had another seems to me that they weren’t. As trialed and tested on people with inflammatory problems having taken 5 doses who knows what that’s done to your body

I hope you continue to improve. It’s useful to hear about getting antivirals here.

Take care Scottishlad, you should soon be feeling a little better. Hopefully the taste in your mouth is a small price to pay for a drug that might save your life.
