Maybe Mtx is starting to work!

Good morning all,

I have Psa and incredibly painful elbows for 4 years. 6 weeks ago I decided to try Mtx injections. Everyone on this site told me 10mgs is a very low dose so I didn't expect much. Fortunately I've had no side effects.

Woke up this morning and my elbow pain has completely gone. My hand is still a little bit sore.

I can't believe I've gone from intense elbow pain to no pain at all.

Can it possibly be the low 10mg dose working? If so it's a miracle. I fought rheumatology for so long as was terrified to try it. If it's worked after 6 weeks I need to eat humble pie.

Any thoughts?

It wouldn’t surprise me at all. From my own experience I often say full potential by around 12 weeks though subtle changes can be noticed from around 6 weeks. Seems yours aren’t quite so subtle… yay! No matter how positive we feel about a med if you're resistant we can't do anything about it until you make that choice to try it. I'm so pleased you did & you're now reaping the benefits.

Remember, even though it's a low dose it's new to you so as such your body is responding. Also, injection dose could be a dose higher than the equivalent in tablets, so could be you're on 12.5mg equivalent. It may be you'll need to incrementally increase it as it works harder on disease activity, or 10mg may be all it takes. Time will tell but for now I’m happy for you.. 😊🤗👏

10mg is the bottom of the therapeutic dose scale, so it can work just fine if your system is receptive to it. And 10mg injections are more like 12.5mg tablet. Are you quite small? That can make a difference too.

Anyway enjoy being pain free, and the humble pie!

Yes I am small. Weigh 48kgs. I'm finding it so difficult to believe that this low dose is working but can't put the pain free elbows down to anything else. My hand is still sore but nothing like it was.

The reason I'm so sceptical is because a lot of people on here implied 10mgs was so low it would probably need to be increased. Hopefully, this proves that is not the case.

If you were 80kg and on tablets I would be sceptical, but you’re not. Enjoy! I remember to this day the moment when I managed to tuck in the bedsheets without my sausage fingers ers screaming at me!

It was quite a moment when I woke up yesterday with no pain in my elbows. I kept feeling them all day just to make sure as it's been so long since they were "normal".
