Feeling relieved after 1st MTX jab

Im quite pleased with myself. MTX tablets really made my gastric reflux unbearable, so yesterday the Rheumy nurse showed me and hubby how to use the MTX injection pen.

So an hour ago hubby did the honours, I was so scared (I hate needles). I needn’t have been. I didn’t even feel it until a couple of seconds after he finished. I was amazed. My Rheumy nurse has to inject herself too as she has psoriatic arthritis and promised me it wouldn’t hurt, but I was still worried, especially with doing it at home! I’m a bit proud of myself and hubby. Just hoping now any side affects are minimal 🤞

Well done both of you! I did mine earlier and was thinking how casually I do it now whereas to start with I was SOO careful! 😂

Hopefully you'll find it much better than the tablets 🤞😊

Well done both of you. I definitely had less side effects from the injections compared with tablets.

I agree with Boxerlady, after a while you don't even think about doing it, I too am scared of needles and got so worked up with my 1st injection I made myself sick 🙄 now it's just push click done . It'll be second nature in no time.

Good on you both, I was really nervous at first too but I don't give it a second thought now. 🙂

You’ve got be thinking. I take 25mg MTX weekly. I’m currently also under the care of respiratory because my lungs are damaged from aspirating stomach acid. The HRCT scan showed I also have a small hiatus hernia, which she says is due to the diaphragm weakening due to having no chest expansion from fused ribs. I’m now wondering if taking the oral methotrexate may be contributing to the acid issue. Did anyone find their acid improved having switched to injections.

I’ll be able to let you know that in a couple of days. My acid got terrible on the 2nd or 3rd day after taking the pills. I’ll get back to you on Tuesday and let you know how I feel. Xx

Hi Maureen

Update as promised on acid. As you know I had the injection on Saturday at 6pm, yesterday (Monday) morning I had slight acid. When I had the tablets after 2 days I had chronic acid. So I’ve had a big difference at the moment.

That sounds promising, might have discussion with my rheumatologist re trying injections and see if acid improves. Glad it seems to be helping you, and thanks for the update 👍🤗

It may well be coincidence but make sure that you stay well-hydrated today. I always try to drink more on the day of injection and the next day.

Thank you boxerlady. I did yesterday and aim to today. Litre of water in a bottle in the kitchen do every time I venture in there I’ll take a drink. Plus the decaf tea and coffee I usually drink. X

I read somewhere that another good trick is to drink water before every cup of tea or coffee. I only have one cup of ordinary tea a day and rarely drink coffee so I drink fruit tea, fresh lemon or lime juice in hot water and lime squash.

Ah ok I’ll try that too.

That could be more to do with worrying about it. Hopefully you will settle down.

Me too. I could worry for England and win first prize. I hope you feel better tomorrow.

Hurray, it's a good start. It will become easier each week. I much prefer the Metoject to tablets.
