MTX and Naproxen

Is it ok to take naproxen with MTX? It wasn't on my prescription when the Rheumy nurse saw it. Should I contact them before starting MTX? She did tell me to leave 4 hours between taking MTX and Omeprazol, I take 2 daily.

Thanks and merry Xmas to you all.

Hi yes I think it's fine - I've had Naproxen for the last few days & it's seems to be ok with MTX.

Hello

Just carry on with your medications, we all seen to be on the same type of mixed medications, and each of these medications seem to be doing a different job in keeping us stable.

Please do not worry

I've been on both for four years and taken them together with no problem.

Thank you all for your replies, just checking getting a bit paranoid, with all the other meds I have to take.

Hope all have a happy Christmas and a less stressful 2014.

Any idea why you have to take the mtx and omeprazol 4 hours apart ?? I take my omeprazol at bedtime along with all my medication - I shove it all in at once in a big handful it's the only way I could do it, I wonder if that's why I got so sick !!

Hi jenwight, if you look up the interactions on webmd, it says that he omeprazol stops the elimination of methotrexate from the body, which can make MTX more toxic in the body making the side effects stronger, or something like that. That's why she said to leave 4 hours between them.

Hope this helps, not good at explaining medical stuff.

Have a good Christmas, hope you don't suffer too much.

I am to start taking MTX. I have had them for over a week but can not get myself to start taking them I always make up an excuse. Had the granddaughters for a week then we had a wedding to go to then on Sunday we had our Christmas because the kids had to go home because they worked on Christmas..now today the granddaughter went home and now tomorrow is reall Christmas and don't want to be sick for that so what should I do?

Hello Mailwoman, I too have MTX, yet not taken any. I told the Rheumy nurse I would start them in the new year and she agreed it would probably be best, as they may make you feel nauseous and unwell. I didn't want to feel like this over Christmas and new year so I have decided to start on Monday the 6th January 2014 and hope I don't get the bad side effects.

Hope this helps you with your decision, it is very daunting, but I must try it and hope for the best.

I end up doing some reading the other night when I was in so much pain I couldn't sleep, about my psoriatic Arthritis and thought I better get on the med now because I was having a flare up and if it was doing damage to my bones I better try to stop from anymore damage now. Because it takes a while before it starts to help your bones.i took it Friday night and sat am and pm and had now real side affects but a bit of a headache today. So hope that's a good sign and I will be ok.
