Hi so been told after numerous tests i have mild Osteoarthritis of upper and lower spine was told to take Amitriptyline a small dose but its doing nothing so GP said to take a higher dose so going to try that still getting numbness where things are pressing in my spine and although its mildly painful daily i get bouts of really bad pain i cannot move my neck lower back is to painful to move sometimes but because its mild and my MRI doesnt show signs of compression or trapped nerves theres not alot more they can do for me my Inflammatory marker is only marginally high so im just to carry on as normal was actually thinking of Acupuncture or maybe some sort of neck excercise as this may help me does anyone know if this may help me as im really at a dead end now any experiences that anyone has had would be great
Thank you xx

I have mild osteoarthritis in my hip that caused pain on getting up from sitting and walking.
I had acupuncture in combination with daily exercises and I was shocked how effective it was! I can walk miles at a time now without pain.
I was very sceptical before I started the treatment but I'm now a total convert 😂 When I pulled my rotator cuff and could hardly move my arm without severe pain I went back for more and it did the trick.
I'd say give it a go and hopefully it'll work for you. I was nervous about the needles but mostly I couldn't feel them and found the experience quite gentle and relaxing.
I’ve had acupuncture for years for spine and neck problems ( disc/bone degeneration and bone spurs) and it’s been great, allowing me to move without so much pain (I do still take amitriptyline though) and reducing the muscle spasms in my neck and shoulders. I also have gua sha at the same session. Go for it, it’s worth trying as you might find it does the same for you as it does for me 🤞🏻
I have used acupuncture since being diagnosed 20plus years ago and it has helped greatly when changing treatments and during flares. Would recommend trying it and wish it was on the Nhs.
Acupuncture is on the NHS I got 6 rounds of it from physio department at our hospital where I was referred by rheumy. Unfortunately it made matters ten times worse for me which can happen occasionally I was one of the unlucky ones. But it is available although I doubt you would get more than about 6 sessions.
Amitriptyline is the same thing as Elavil. It's an antidepressant. I was on it for migraine prophylactic years ago. I was rather angry when I found out what it was. Never had acupuncture. Some people swear by supplements like turmeric and others. Might work if you don't have digestive problems. Good luck with whatever you use.
Hi thank you for your response i have had so many disagreements with my GP over taking Amitriptyline didnt even want to entertain the idea but my dose was so low after months of saying no thought id give it ago was taking tumeric for 3 months and it really didnt help but neither is the Amitriptyline either really and my GP told me to up the dose by 2 more tablets told her no ill try one more so i take 2 now but im not going to take anymore ill see how it goes !!! Xx thank you for your input x
