MAGNETS & COPPER

Afternoon folks, Cats still licking my swollen joints and getting on my knee joints when I lie down, if nothing else it makes me smile. Had a general catalogue through today and amongst the items offered for sale are copper compression finger sleeves and magnetic knee supports. There is also a heat therapy pad for painful knees. Anyone tried these type of items? Do they work for some, not for others? Thankyou.

I’ve never found magnets or copper items to do anything. Surely if they were the miracle they claim them to be our rheumatology teams/physiotherapists/occupational therapists would be recommending them. I tried normal compression gloves but couldn’t get on with them but other people say they help. I have used supports for my wrist and knee which offered some relief from discomfort. 🙂

I was part of trials for both copper and magnetic bracelets in the 1990s. Neither worked for me and the trials showed no effective difference between the placebo and active arms.

Hi. I have some ‘woollen’ gloves which have copper in, but also some half finger neprolene ones without, and some half finger compression gloves. All work well in different ways. My favourite wrist supports are ‘Neo-G’ and have an extra bit which wraps round your wrist. Being warm is what works for me, but I would definitely recommend the Neo-G ones if you need support.

I have a variety as I am inconsistent 😁

I wouldn’t waste your money on copper supports and magnetic ones go with something that supports the limb without the extra cost would suffice. I’ve tried lots and spent a small fortune on them too when I was first diagnosed but non worked. I do however have ice packs and heat packs which do help and I’ve been known to use them my favourite ones were from Lidl dirt cheap and work well contain gel red ones for heat to warm in microwave and blue ones for freezing.

Thankyou, when you're in pain you will consider anything including alternative therapies.

Yeah I know how you feel as do most here on HU. Heat and ice do help a little as do Epsom salt baths but the only way to truly help is to try and get the disease controlled or mind numbing painkillers which are short lived and of course prednisone or a depo injection. I hope you manage to get some relief soon.

Copper and magnets are no help for me. My dogs (love cats too) lick my joints too when I flare up! I think they are trying to help me heal..makes me feel so loved!
