Knee replacement?

Hi all!

Well I’ve taken the plunge and made an appt for a private consultation with an orthopaedic specialist. My right knee is giving me so much pain. All my other joints are fine, dmard seems to working on them.

I had xrays done several weeks ago and my right knee has deteriorated significantly in the past 3 years. GP seems to think it’s osteo?

Has anyone had a knee replacement and did it help?

Ta 😊👍

Yes mine did in the end after I had to have it redone at another hospital. Best advice I can give is after the surgery do your exercises.xxx

I agree with Sylvie, Most important thing is to do your excercises. Also it is quite major surgery so allow yourself tome to recover .

Yes have had total knee replacements on both knees and both hips now pain free in those joints. Just remember to do all the exercises they give you. Good luck xx

I have had two, right TKR 9 months ago and left 2 months ago. I am so thankful I did it! My right knee feels great, I am still having swelling and stiffness on the left, but it has only been 2 months so that is normal. My advice to you would be start the physical therapy exercise now before the surgery and it will go so much better. Not only will your brain remember the exercises after the surgery, your knee will be stronger before therefore making it easier and you will have a quicker recovery. Also make sure your surgeon has good reviews on knee replacements, I researched and found the best. I live in Texas, I had my surgery in Houston. The exercises are very important you must do them for a good outcome. I wish you the best and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Take care.

I had total knee replacements in both knees at the same time. Did it help? Hard to say because I had no pain in them whatsoever before having them replaced! I guess the good thing is, I still don’t have any pain in them.

What I would echo, is what Sylvia said - do your exercises afterwards. The physio is gruelling but absolutely necessary. I’d add to that, ice helps and regular medication helps you to get in top of things.

I wish you the very best of luck.
