Have I slept through lockdown??

I ask this question because I really must have missed something.

One set of neighbours house has been like Piccadilly’s circus. They have had friends round who live 3 doors away even though they talk everyday at the end of their drive. They also had their son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren one a baby the other 3 . They live 5 doors away and spend everyday talking to them at the bottom of the drive. The other som turned up with his girlfriend and other members of the family and they are all sitting in the garden right beside the fence where my table and chairs are if the fence wasn’t there I could touch them. The neighbors on the other side are having a barbecue they have 2 children under 10 and members of their family have been in and out all day. Just 1/2 at a time.

Have I missed something?

Update on neighbours

Spoke to one lot this morning as I walked passed them while they were talking from the end of the drive way to their neighbours.

Why are you distancing today from the very same people you had in your garden yesterday. I asked

Answer . well it was my husbands 60th and we had a party and we felt it wouldn’t hurt for one day 🙄🙄 my reply was REALLY!!! Gave a dirty look. And walked away didn’t trust myself to say anymore. I will still need to live next to these stupid people after all this .This same person is a teacher who refused to work with the children and only from home.

Have you reported them?

in reply to KittyJ

No .. I don’t think the police will do much. Our area is so short of police when a knife was held to neighbors throat when her car was stolen off the drive no one came for 3 hours. One police officer with car to cover 50 miles

KittyJ in reply to

Well you don’t know unless you report them, if people don’t report things they can hardly complain nothing is being done to stop it. Plus if it’s not reported it looks like everyone is following the rules 🤷🏻‍♀️

in reply to KittyJ

I’ll contacted them but I don’t live in hope

The police have asked for people to report flagrantly defying social rules regarding containing this terrible virus.

If this happens in every street we will be locked in our own houses for the next 20 years!

Individual police forces will report it centrally......think about it,

Seems nothing applies to these idiots and they are all over. Next door couple brought a guy round with his kid this morning and the guy who lives next door got out from the driver’s side drinking a bottle of beer.

We just bobbed out to try put an envelope with a cheque etc in, in my bank a mile away as I’ll go over drawn of I don’t transfer money soon. I can’t queue in the bank. Had hoped to put it through the bank letterbox . No letterbox!! 🤨 On the way back we saw four youths approx 16 years old on bicycles riding close together and as we were nearer home, another five exactly the same turning onto a country road. They don’t seem to have a care and rules are not for them.

Put a stamp on my letter/cheque and will walk to the post box when less people roaming about.

The flouters will be coming out in more numbers I think as the weather gets warmer. Sorry those neighbours are too near your garden. I think the police would tell them to stop and fine them. If only they would come and do so. AThen it could backfire on you though. It is obvious that are a lot of very selfish, inconsiderate people who cannot do what is asked.

in reply to Neonkittie17

Your right . One is teacher the others are high earners on furlough. Not uneducated

Unfortunately nowadays being a high earner does not mean you are not stupid or uneducated. As my uncle used to say: in a cesspit the biggest shits rise to the top!

Some people think they are immortal, immune or exempt from this virus. Others have sense and know better!

in reply to Pippy25

Unfortunately to them they are desensitised. The reality just doesn’t register

But if the rest of us just complain amongst ourselves that is just as bad.

It’s not just being sneaky.,.,,it’s saving lives....as you live next door....could be yours or your loved ones.

Report them....now.

in reply to AgedCrone

I contacted the police . You have to fill an online report. Heard nothing and the gathering had finished by the evening 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to

Well you can do no more.....I wouldn’t expect a squad of police to descend the minute they receive a phone call.

No doubt there is some procedure in place.

IDIOTS trouble is if they get it they would be up the front to get treatment our nhs don’t need this what more can I say have to calm down will have a flare up 🤬stay safe people who care x

Pippy25 profile image
Pippy25 in reply to Soundofmusic52

And that's what saddens me because If I were to take ill in addition to my health conditions and I have been abiding the measures, verses them who flaunt the measures but are healthier, they would no doubt prioritise them over me. Horrible selfish people.

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to Pippy25

Exactly...I am pottering along well....but I doubt I have the stamina to fight off this virus.....that is if I ever got near any treatment at my age.

I would even report friends if I knew they were being stupid & having parties/visitors etc.

Thankfully where I live it is like a ghost town....my neighbour shops for me....& we shout at each other across the garden fence...but apart from dog walkers we see nobody except the postie.

Pippy25 profile image
Pippy25 in reply to AgedCrone

I think that's the term I would use pottering along AC, as I gave up on receiving any letters, calls or texts from health care professionals or who ever telling me one thing or the other. I have listened to my lovely GP 5 weeks ago telling me to shield and like others here have taken myself out of the equation by doing this. Admittedly I've had my wobbles but have had to think this is not forever.I have been through so much physically and mentally for years and in particular of late and know there's more to come and as you say about stamina, I doubt very much my body would cope with this virus, so I have removed myself as best as I can from the situation and potter along, live in the moment and try to get by with what I have. Take care x

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to Pippy25

I reckon it is what it is......we must accept & get on & deal with It......with or without letters or supermarket delivery slots.

Apart from staying home,I personally have no way whatsoever of contributing to or helping out in anyway......except by keeping out of the way of those who can. So no calls to rheumy or GP...unless of course I think extinction is imminent.🥱

Thus, I refuse to expend energy worrying about something I can do nothing about.

I do have a good old moan about how the situation is seemingly being mishandled - but again I can do nothing about it.

What good is me getting out my 50year old sewing machine....when large profitable companies are supposedly offering to make PPE & are reportedly being ignored?

So what will be, will be..... let’s just make the best of it.

My friends and I were only talking about this (on the phone and not in person) and we have all noticed this week there seems to be more people taking chances inour neighbourhoods, more traffic on the roads and it almost feels like more people are pushing the boundaries. After last weeks 'disco dave' holding his boogie in the street session here, whereby youngsters (mainly girls) were congregating close together dancing in the road to his very loud beats. When the police finally came and broke it up an hour and a half later, as I understand people in the neighbouring villages and towns were reading all about it as it was posted on social media....which is a joke as the police could probably hear it at the station as it is so close by they could have walked around the corner instead of arriving in the car, so heaven help anyone without a station nearby. We all would dearly love to go out and go about our usual business but we don't because we know that we would not only be risking our own life but that of others and we have an understanding that the longer we all stay home, the quicker we can all be together again and get back to normality. I just don't get what part they don't or wont understand.

There will be a lot more people pushing boundaries and having street raves before the 3 week extension is up, you can bet on it.

Pippy25 profile image
Pippy25 in reply to wishbone

Sadly so wishbone, I think some people have stopped listening and got 'bored' with it all now. Some don't have very long attention spans and some are just beyond comprehension.

I agree, report it. We are in mourning for a very close friend who has died of Covid-19 on April 2nd, he was in good health and was only 63. Sadly the family lost their 15 year old son, just 3 years ago to Sepsis. This just leaves our friend without a husband and a 19 and 14 year old to bring up. I was shocked yesterday to find that 2 of our friendship group went to visit and sat at the end of the garden of our late friend for the afternoon yesterday! It seems that tragedy still does not get the message home! We just dont know what they were all thinking. We are devasted too but even if I was not shielding, we wouldn't dream of going to visit at this time, even though they are only in the next village, despite wanting to help them in their and our grief! My husband has been asked to attend the funeral on Tuesday (numbers limited to 10 including the immediate family) and I am so sad that I cannot attend but fully understand why this is not possible.

I have come to the conclusion that sadly there are still too many selfish and ignorant people in this world!

I am in the U.S., United States of stupid. My own cousin, a super smart guy talked to me on the phone last week. he was ranting about how angry he was at the Chinese for cooking this up in a lab and releasing it on purpose. I was so shocked I did not speak, I just handed the phone to my husband as fast as i could. This same person wants to re-open economy right away. I am so saddened by this type of thinking.

I took a package to post office this morning, I was mailing some face masks I made. Other than that I am sheltering in place. The postal worker asked me how much I charged for my masks. I was wearing one. I told her nothing.

She said, "Girl, you gotta get something for them". That right there, in a nutshell is why America is so screwed up. Everything has a price, even human life and helping our fellow human beings. This country is so screwed up.

🥺🥺stupidity and selfish people is global that’s why this is will go on and on

Exactly and the mutants near us persist on riding round on bicycles four or five abreast and it’s guys aged 15/16 who insist on doing this. We had some riding towards us the weekend before last behind our house on a country path and had to jump in a field to ensure we weren’t close to them, hard not to be when they spread out.

Totally agree with you re some or rather alot of people's mentality in money over care. I myself have given just because I wanted to help. I gave/give without any expectations or thought of some monetary remuneration.

It's very sad that anyone should think this way at every opportunity. It could make others feel frightened to ask for help due to what it may cost.

Does helping fellow humans in such depressing times with daily losses of lives have to be be undermined by the selfish thought and worse, suggestion that money could be made by the action of such a thoughtful gesture.

I congratulate you for making masks. Rise above the ignorance you experienced and trust that the people who receive the face masks will be so grateful. Well done you! xx

I made 90 masks then had to take a break. It became a bit overwhelming. It would break my heart to even think of taking money for them. On a lighter note here is a video on how to make a mask. Enjoy!

No you have not missed anything the lockdown has been extended to early may in the UK. We are trapped in the Canaries at present where the lockdown runs until late May which has whipped out the winter and spring for all.

Guess somebody has to live next door to idiots, a birthday is not an excuse to party in these times, they need reporting.
