Its official, they are B#####.

Severe ra and oa and erosion. Lateral ligament near? tear and sprain . Seeing rheumy friday for another steroid jab into it and probably he will refer me to orthopedics.

I thought there was something wrong!! So I was right. Cant believe the a and e said it was fine 5 months ago ..... 🤔

I don't know that i would be able to travel with the way my health is these days. My breathing is so bad now i would be worried about flying. I have three holidays in this country so it can't be that bad. xxx

Remember you going to A&E and thinking you were waisting their time. Just proves we know our bodies even when the doctors think they know best.

Not great news as there is a long road ahead but the good news is it will now be sorted just a question of when as back logs galore for treatment and ops 🤞🏻it will be sooner rather than later. Xx

Glad they have an answer to be honest, it's been a long 5 months

I need to win the lottery and gi private to Harley street!

in reply to allanah

Oh the dream .... £180.000 euro tonight I’ll get you a gold one if I win 😂.

I need a few tests ( rather detailed won’t go into it) they are not doing them on the nhs at the moment and there is a backlog. I have a private consult next week just for an opinion doubt I’ll be able to afford extensive testing but even the secretary said they can’t do a lot of the tests privately at the moment. X

Ah ok xxx well I've had xrays and mri so that's a start x

Trouble with A&E is they are more interested in things that are going to kill you. If not life threatening then it’s obviously nothing! 🤒

But good to get something definite to be worked on.

Yes true bug rheumy thinks my knee cap had been broken too

helixhelix profile image
helixhelix in reply to allanah

Well that they should have noticed! Ouch.

allanah in reply to helixhelix

Yes they should. He thinks he sees it on the xray but healed now... but I'll quiz him friday x

Sometimes we just have that gut feeling and as we live in our bodies 24/7 we know. I've just spoken with my GP about the report that has still not arrived from last year after that disaster of a consultation with the orthopaedic consultant. Seems he went off on leave last month and they can't find any written records other than some dictation saying he may want to see me this September about my knee! Another year on....and that combined with the first consultant who told me out right it was 'gout' (which it wasn't and have never had gout) will make it over three years and I'm not even on a list! I despair I really do, so some 'regrouping' and waiting until my second vaccination then I'm going to see if I can muster some money together for a private consultation with another chap and get this sorted. Too much time has been wasted at our expense allanah and yes I realise there will be a back log with covid, but think that if things had of been done properly, I know in my case I would have been sorted prior to this and wonder if it would be the same for you. xx

allanah in reply to Pippy25

Yes let's hope we get it all sorted out asap x

Second knee jab in 5 weeks! I need another diet !

Monkeysmum profile image
Monkeysmum

Oh that’s not good news allanah, I hope the steroid jab helps with the pain and that treatment can be sorted soon. I think A and E can be quick to dismiss unfortunately in an attempt to hit the discharge targets, especially if they can identify another reason for the pain I.e. RA. Sending hugs 🤗 xx

Thanks mm. I hope it helps I'm sick of being sore!,

Ouch .. same result here in 2015 re severe OA erosion (which you tend to know by the pain anyhow) following my ligament damage to the side of knee area. The rheumy is amazed I can walk on it she told me but my issue is more the recurring Baker Cyst. They always say to me just let us know when you want the knee replacing. I will need to at some point.

Orthotics may help you but you may already have those. Have for me (just took 4 years to get them and the shoes ... the saga of the damn shoes needs its own soap opera!!) an my nice orthotist at the second hospital made me an extra pair or footwear .. some fab ankle boots like walking ones as I’d waited so long! Not anything she did wrong by the time I got to see her. Hope your knee steroid will give relief and you’ll be able to move better on it. Hopefully improving enough for the better weather coming to stroll out a little more. xx

allanah profile image
allanah in reply to Neonkittie17

Hi I gave orthotics in my shoes already and I bought a knee brace on amazin so I could walk ( I know but I was stuck!) So hoping he can help at last!

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to allanah

I was thinking of getting a knee brace before when I had my knee injured but couldn’t see a decent wrap around one and I couldn’t reach down to pull on a tight one. Have you felt the benefit of yours? I am unable to walk without shoes inserts/orthotics. I have a bag of them to go in various shoes but three pairs of official custom ones and some other good bought ones to fit different shoes.

allanah profile image
allanah in reply to Neonkittie17

I just bought one from amazon but obviously it's not prescribed so I was worried about making it worse but my physio nit around at that stage. So they may say dont use it

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to allanah

I don’t think you will have made anything worse by doing so as you’ve not been using it for a long time, etc.

I know it was October as we had out last caravan trip. But yes moving on .....

Do you think you need knee replacements ? As others have said it's a relief to know you aren't imaging things. Now they know the problem it can be fixed x

allanah profile image
allanah in reply to Marionfromhappydays

No I dont know really xx I'll wait see what my rheumy says and hope he does what he says and refers me to orthopedics

Yes, mum knows best. At last you have something concrete, Let's hope that the clinical team will get their fingers out and help you. If this sounds disrespectful to the NHS staff, it's not meant to be. I wish you good luck.

Glad you have proof. You wonder sometimes. Why on earth would it hurt so much & you couldn’t weight-bear if all was tickety boo?! I'm pleased you're being seen soon & hope the steroid eases it.Similar issue with SIL. In hospital for the same problem (jaundice, upper right pain, muscle pain & weight loss). Scans didn't reveal anything previously & it settled so sent home a few months ago with still no idea what was wrong. Readmitted this week. Now they think it's AIH. Consultant none too pleased that they said they couldn't find anything wrong after previous 3 week stay.

Amused not. Like many other now saving to try get a opinion from private consultation. Moan done lol I hope we all get better and soon.

a relief but also now how to deal with it. Does it mean that medication hasn't worked? Will you have to have surgery?Let's hope you get the right care now to prevent further damage. X

allanah profile image
allanah in reply to Brychni

Not necessarily, I have an unusual form of RA where I grow lumps on my joints and it's hard to reduce the inflammation. But TCZ has been amazing plus Leflunamide and steroids. The fall seems to have done me no good , just bad luck I think. It's not inevitable that you get joint problems with RA especially with today's treatments . So dont worry , I'm just...unusual or unlucky. You get your treatments and get controlled 😍 !!!

I’m glad you at last know what’s wrong When I had this like you I was told the same and I deteriorated quickly and 3 months later it was severe and I got a new knee Wishing you the best outcome x
