Had my vaccine today šŸ˜Š

Blimey it stung and my arm feels heavy and bruised, but glad itā€™s done and we are on our way to getting out of all this.

Great! It was on the 10 o'clock news that they hope everyone should be vaccinated by September. Hopefully we'll have a Christmas something akin to normal.

That would be lovely x

Their language is off some places. Itā€™s that people will be ā€œoffered,ā€ just as with the feb 15th deadline is now ā€œofferā€ vs. will have first dose. And with a 3 month delay Iā€™d expect closer to end of 2021/start or 2022 at best. Iā€™m someone who would rather know a real prediction so am clarifying for that reason alone :). Ps. They finally changed the language for the top 4 groups which was nice as I was starting to wonder about the governmentā€™s basic math skills (even at 2m a week vaccinated, which they have yet to be close to, there are 15m in priorities 1-4. 15 divided by 2 is 7.5. 7.5 weeks from now is end of March for first dose).

I caught the headline only.

Lynnels profile image
Lynnelsā€¢ in reply toHanaleiBa

They have to now say ā€˜offeredā€™ as otherwise it implies that people will be forced to have it. There are a lot of anti-vaccine people out there ready to cause trouble unfortunately

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17ā€¢ in reply toLynnels

Agree re the anti vaxxers. I know one who is posting videos videos of herself on IG dancing around doing a double V with her fingers and saying ... up yours Boris. (?šŸ¤Ø) She says .. Iā€™m not having a vaccine to make YOU feel better .. and sheā€™s an anti masker. Ignorant woman. Tbh sheā€™s a fool and Iā€™ve muted then blocked her as she got worse, but sheā€™s one of a large minority who donā€™t believe. I posted something a few months back about a promo campaign to encourage people to take up the vaccines. I havenā€™t seen any of what was proposed so far emerge in an ad.. Itā€™s been very busy but I think some major encouragement via a campaign to be vaccinated would be a good idea.

Dont worry šŸ’— All those seniors on TV didnā€™t flinch so Iā€™m sure it wonā€™t be bad. There is always someone who will bruise etc. My pneumonia shot was difficult for a week after. Flu one was a breeze! Let us know how if went. All good wishes to you for the vaccination.

Good news that you got your vaccine Ferret18, I've heard a few people say it is a bit stingy.

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17

Well done! I had a really difficult pneumonia shot last year that made my arm stiff and painful for a week. Frozen shoulder as suspect they hit the muscle too high. It was fine after a week. Then for the flu one, I couldnā€™t even feel where it went in or even see a mark, so sometimes vaccinations can hurt and sometimes not at all. Iā€™m not going to offer my lead arm in case I canā€™t do much after with it for a few days. I recall some kids at high school terrifying others about the TB injection and one girl fainted in the line waiting to get it in fear of what these mean kids said. I couldnā€™t feel much at all.

Great news. In my area (Cambridgeshire) they start vaccinating today .... rather slow but hopefully will gather pace now that it's being rolled out to CEV group.

Had mine too, didnā€™t hurt personally and the dead arm feeling the next day was much less than I get with the flu jab which was good.

Question - any whoā€™s had their vaccine and takes DMARDS and / or biologics, did you skip your meds the week after the vaccine and if so, how long for? I know you have to weigh up the flare risk of course.

helixhelix profile image
helixhelixā€¢ in reply toJennySLT

I have appt for vaccine tomorrow, which is MTX night. I have emailed rheumy as, as yet, there is no definitive research about whether skipping a week helps your body develop antibodies better. However if she doesnā€™t reply I think I might skip the MT X as missing one week never causes me a problem. Not sure about biologic which is at weekend. But this is my personal view and NOT medical advice.

MaxineButler profile image
MaxineButlerā€¢ in reply tohelixhelix

Hi I was advised to not take my methotrexate and Humira for 3 weeks 1 week before the vaccination and for 2 weeks after just to ensure as you may get a lower response if not, but by Rheumatology nurse did say it is up to me to way up the risk but if your arthritis is stable it should not affect you too much. I hope this helps I am having my jab tomorrow.

JennySLT profile image
JennySLTā€¢ in reply tohelixhelix

Thanks, yes I am generally able to afford missing one weekā€™s dose without great consequences. I had my vaccine first dose on Saturday 9th Jan and was due my MTX on Tuesday 12th which I skipped. Am due my Humira today then MTX due again tomorrow and wasnā€™t sure whether to skip those this week and return to normal next week (pushing back Humira one week). I watched the NRAS Facebook live on vaccines and the Dr had said it may be worth missing meds if you are able to but didnā€™t indicate how long for. Again, not medical advice! Good luck :)

helixhelix profile image
helixhelixā€¢ in reply toJennySLT

My rheumy just phoned me, and said that I should stop for a week if I feel I am stable....which I am. And same again for second dose.

I didnā€™t stop any of my meds - hydroxychloroquine, sulfazalazine and Leflunomide

helixhelix profile image
helixhelixā€¢ in reply toFerret18

None of them would affect your bodyā€™s ability to develop antibodies...

Ferret18 profile image
Ferret18ā€¢ in reply tohelixhelix

Yeah - Iā€™ve only seen some mention of the way some biologics are given when having the vaccine that will need to change

Neonkittie17 profile image

Thatā€™s Rituximab mainly re the logistics of holding off that infusion/waiting longer for your next one.

Good luck everyone having their vaccine, in Wales we are still in the dark ages, they're saying the middle of Feb here but............

Gosh - Iā€™m injection phobic - I really wish youā€™d stopped after you said youā€™d had your vaccine!

Spoke to a friend yesterday on the phone who said sheā€™d had her and the whole experience was amazing. Maybe it depends on who does it? Iā€™m hoping they have moved on to fine needles - I read the other day that apparently fine need.es waste less vaccine.

Ferret18 profile image
Ferret18ā€¢ in reply toFruitandnutcase

Oh sorry šŸ˜£ both nurses said they didnā€™t feel a thing when they had theirs - maybe Iā€™m just a big wuss šŸ¤£Also, take a book or look at your phone to take your mind off it - that can help.

And itā€™s all for a really good reason.

Take care

Fruitandnutcase profile image
Fruitandnutcaseā€¢ in reply toFerret18

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ Thanks - when I started to read your reply I thought you were about to say they didnā€™t feel a thing when they gave you yours.

Iā€™ll cross my fingers and thatā€™s good advice. Iā€™ll put on my iPod. I do that when I need anything ā€˜bigā€™ done at the dentist. Although if they are whizzing the patients through at however fast it is - one every x seconds I read yesterday - I donā€™t think Iā€™ll have time to even think about it.

Prior to my flu and pneumonia jabs I read something on here about relaxing the muscle helping and interestingly, the pharmacist who gave me the first one said the same thing. Both of them were painless and no after effects at all šŸ˜Š

bubblyalex profile image
bubblyalexā€¢ in reply toBoxerlady

I breath in and out deeply several times. Makes a huge difference especially with the Amgevita and nordimet injections i have to do. I donā€™t bruise much if I do it well. šŸ˜Š

Had mine 9th January, didn't feel a thing. I feel well. Stopped my meds week before and will start again in 3 weeks. Next dose in April. X

I may have dreamt this, but I'm pretty sure I've seen somewhere that the soreness etc is a sign of your body responding to the vaccine and so possibly a good thing?
