Heart palpitations

Hi. I'm new to the group so hello everyone. I've had anxiety all my life. I am 50. I came down with a virus 9 days ago. I had a Covid test and it was negative. So I feel ok about that. I have felt very ill though but feel I've turned a corner today. The only problem is I am having regular heart palpitations. I do have an ectopic heart beat (extra beat every 200) but I've never noticed it like this before. I'm wondering if it is because of the virus? I've been under a lot of stress lately and I have also just changed hayfever medication to one I've never tried before. Any advice anyone?

Hi angelteejay and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear about your problems but glad to hear you've tested negative for Covid. If you've had a virus you will have been feeling very unwell and depending on what it was, it can go on for quite a while. We aren't qualified to give medical advice here but maybe you should ring your GP and ask and also let him/her know of your concern about your palpitations. Maybe it is to do with the stress you've been experiencing or your change in hayfever medication, but your GP would be the one to ask about that. Good luck and all the best. Let us know how you get on. xx

We can’t diagnose or advise any conditions .....if your heart beat doesn’t settle ....I suggest you call the doctor in the morning.

Take your pulse every few hours so that you can tell the doctor the rate.

Antihistamines can cause palpitations as they do to me but if they are every day then a doc’s advice and reassurance would be better than anything we can say, just to be sure. I have an ectopic beat too about every 150 beats but it is never an issue with an ECG. My heart rate is strong and steady. Just the way it is my doc says. x

Yes my heart beat is also strong and regular. I had an ecg recently and a heart check and both were good. Just out of interest fo you feel your ectopic beat was h time? X

I don’t have hay fever Angel, but when I have to take Piriton as a pre med for my Rituximab infusions, it happens then and last last year when I had a Soya allergy I had to take them for a week and noticed the erratic heartbeat and how it vanished when I stopped the Piriton. Ask your doc as there may be alternative antihistamines. x

I’m using piriton for the first time in tablet form but usually use cetirizine with no problems. It could be that I guess?

I have very little knowledge or experience tbh of antihistamines other than when I have to take one pre-Rtx or the allergy I once took them for, and the fact they can make you sleepy. You could ask your doc and mention you didn’t have issues with another type of antihistamine, but we are not to give advice on which meds to take here. It’s a big no no. Hope you can speak to your doc and get the med which suits you better. xx
