Well yesterday I went for my steroid shot and it has not worked! I am so fatigued and in pain, nothing has changed! It would normally have worked by now. I am so disappointed. I came home from work at 12 noon and had to go straight to bed and fell asleep for 3 hours and then forced myself out of bed. My feet have been in so much pain and my arms have as usual! I will ring the rumey team up again next week! Hope everyone is well.
Take care X

That's a real nuisance Carolsos but as allanah says, maybe it will work yet. If not by tomorrow I would ring and get a call booked in, that way hopefully, you may get another call from the rheumy nurse on Monday. 🤞 x
Hi Carolsos - I had a steroid shot last week and was told that it takes between 1 to 3 weeks to notice any improvement. Give it a few days and see how you are - unfortunately many people believe the shot has worked (if it's into a joint) immediately due to the anaesthetic that goes with it, but if it was a general im injection then you won't feel any relief for a while. hope it does help in the long run though!
When I've had shots in the past they can take up to a week to work for me.
I have found for me the tablets work better and longer than the shots. I once asked the nurse why and she said some people just respond better to one rather than the other.
Oh no I hope yours is a delayed reaction and works very soon. If it is a general one in the buttock then it’s kicked in by the time I’ve walked down the corridor and to the car. It always does it so fast for me but the joint ones take a few days to take good effect so I’m hoping your general one is going to kick in later like Allanah’s do. 🤞🏻 I’m from the same school of thought as Allanah also re resting after them to get the best from them and when it’s in a joint I will immobilise it for a strict 24 hours except bathroom, and then really rest for another day. Yes I would let your rheumy know if you think it hasn’t worked, but I’m hoping it does for you, X
Hi Carol, in my experience the steroid injection is usually administered into the backside, this never made a dent to my pain. It was suggested that the injection should be administered straight into the joint or joints that are causing you most pain. The injections are a lot more painful but the results are worth it. If this is the case with your own experience ask your rheumatologist to inject straight into your joints. This worked for me
Like you it doesn’t really work, I had a steroid injection in my hand and it helped way more than the one in my bum. Instead I’m relying on steroid tablets at this time. Hope you get sorted but if no improvement contact your rheummy team
