It sounds as though that awful ordeal you had has now healed Eiram which is great. Now the physio, but you know what they say about there being no gain without pain! I hope it's soon working as it should be (not before time either) and that you can get back to some sort of normality. x
So sorry to hear what you are having to go through and hope you can get back on track and those muscles and tendons start to get stronger each day, take care x
Hi, I hope the pain eases soon and the physio helps a lot. I am very interested in your progress as I am waiting on mine getting done too. Are you able to walk without crutches now or do you still need them? x
I’ve been walking without crutches for weeks. If honest, I only used them fully, when non weight bearing . Thereafter, I used them a couple of times just to get used to having my foot in the floor . This was made slightly easier as due to lockdown/ shielding, I was only mobilising inside.
Physio, is only so torturous because I should have begun this 6 weeks post op and due to lockdown, I’m only getting it now so unfortunately, all muscles and tendons etc, are absolutely solid - it’s hard going.
Additionally, I had a raging infection in the wound!!
Over 3 weeks, movement has increased by just 5mm!
However, I’ll get there.
Best of luck with your replacement. Now that services have opened up a bit, hopefully your rehab will be more streamlined.
Thank you so much for giving me that information. Every now and again I think I shouldn't bother getting it done as I can still walk around a mile but it is very sore afterwards and the surgeon has said it needs to get done or I will likely fracture my shin again. I think the fact that it's not nearly as common as hips and knees it makes me more nervous. Although I read online about someone that got it done and they can now go dancing and even wear high heels. Both my ankles are affected so I don't think I will be doing much dancing lol. xx
To be fair, my experience has been rubbish but that is due to infection and lack of services due to covid lockdown measures.
The operation itself was very successful and to be honest, there was quite a lot of pain during the first week or so and it was a pain to get comfortable in bed - mostly as I hate sleeping in my back!
Additionally, it was a bigger operation as I had my heel fused too.
Other than this, it’s ok.
I need my other ankle replaced too, and this was due to her done this month - it is to be rescheduled but I’m good with that - for lots of reasons, but mostly because this experience is still too fresh in my head.
I’ve had multiple joints replaced and this is the first time I’ve ever experienced and adverse effects, so I’m confident things will be fine for you.
I’ve yet to feel that any of my operations have not yielded significant improvement - my hope is you’ll feel the same after this x
That's a shame that you have had so many joint replaced, this RA sure is a real pain.
I have had a lot of problems with my shoulders and knees but when it's your feet and ankles it seems worse pain wise. When I went onto rituximab infusions they knees and shoulders seemed a lot better so I started walking more until I fell and broke my hip, I have had a few falls and it's probably because of the ankle being so unsteady.
Thank goodness you are now getting your physio and have got over your infection, you seem to have such a positive outlook on life and that certainly helps.
