My ankle swelling & pain started on Sunday. Right one a lot worse than the left. A days rest yesterday then went out with walking boots this afternoon for 20mins, felt fine at the time. Pain & swelling is back now 🙁. Swelling is around outside ankle joint and below. Still awaiting diagnosis but have high RF, hand & foot pain, so looks likely. Just started naproxen & have my feet in a bowl of cold water hoping that helps. Anyone else had this? Not sure I can make it back in to work when I need to if it continues.....

Swollen ankles
Hello,
If it is getting worse later on in the day perhaps its overused or a sprain? Based on what you said it does seem that RA could be the issue though. Does it get better when you walk on it for a while? I find when I have pain in my ankle it’s worse in the morning and walking on it tends to relieve the pain as long as it’s not too sore to walk on to begin with. If I’m limping a bit in the morning it’s almost fine in the evening.
Maybe try to stay off your feet for a day or two to see if it gets any better? I always attribute any niggle or sprain to RA even if it’s not.
Yes yes yes. I’ve had Rd for 4 years did ok until feb 19 then things got out of hand . I had exactly as you describe. Walked with a limp no stride so kinda shuffled walking up and down stairs could only be managed sideways. I’m still having problems but not as bad. Started a biologic in January got 2 weeks of bliss but there’s still a problem some days worse than others. Everything on hold due to covid
Hi - thanks for your reply. I hope you get to see someone soon. Best, ss
If the naproxen isn't cutting it you need to contact your GP for more pain relief and, maybe, steroids. It's not a good idea to push through as if it's RA ( or Rheumatoid disease as I prefer to call it) it will just push back. In the meantime rest, ice, compression and elevate. RICE
Hate to say this, but I have this every day and have kinda got used to it now. Makes shoe shopping tricky though.
My feet and ankles have been slim since October and then around May with the increase in temperature they start go swell. Any bearing on yours maybe?
