Swollen leg

I am hoping when I adjust to this RD I will not keep asking so many questions.

But in the meantime I have swollen ankles and knees both painful. But over the last couple of days my right leg is swelling from below the knee to the ankle. I have tried elevation but that has not relieved it at all.

Any ideas.

Doctor?   I always think any unexpected swelling, particularly if one-sided or worse on one side, or doesn't relieve on elevation, needs to be checked out to rule out DVT or other nasties.

Evening Smithfield.

Keep on asking questions,as things change from day to day for all of us.

As someone who has recurrent DVTs I am paranoid about these. This would be my first port of call.Is your leg hot, swollen and painful? If so see a GP asap  even if only to tell you isn't a DVT.

I regularly have swollen kegs and ankles but mine is mainly down to lymphodema/ kidney impairment which has been diagnosed seperately.

Keep your leg elevated for this evening but I would contact GP in the morning or if it gets worse during the night ring your out if hours surgery,

Take care.

GO TO THE A&E ASAP

I had a DVT and PE's its a life threatening issue and medical treatment is vital.

I have the same problems. This has been a recurring thing for me for the past 3 years. My lower legs swell and are so swollen I can't hardly wear shoes. I try to keep my legs elevated as much as possible, as you are doing, but it doesnt help me much either :(( I take a daily diuretic, it helps a little. I have mentioned this to my Rheumatologist many times and he always says it is due to the inflamation from the arthritis :( Hope you get some reluef soon, you really need to see your doctor, as everyone else has been saying. Just to rule out the DVT. Hugs....

Hi, I suffer exactly the same. My leg balloons through the day (I gets so bad that I have had to cut all the elastic out of the top of every pair of socks I own. I wake up in the morning and it's fine. And then it just "fills up" through the day. I need a knee replacement (on hold as I am very overweight) and I'm hoping that once that's done it will help with the swelling.

Hi,

I agree with earthwitch you need to see your gp or go to A&E it could be a DVT  I had a DVT twice one iny right groin but it was the right leg that was swollen below my knee and the other one was at back of my left knee. They can be very painful. Is your leg red or bluish in colour.  If it is they will be able to scan your leg, it doesn't hurt and they will put you on Warfare for 6 months if it is your first. You really must see your gp ASAP.

Take care, S

After the doctor see a physio. sometimes pumping your foot up and down can promote circulation in your legs. I agree with the others though.

Thank you everyone for answering and your suggestions. And to you Crusee for saying keep asking the questions.

I have just got back from A&E after the initial triage saw a very through doctor ,who was had a good sense of humour.

By the time I got there the other leg was slightly swollen But the right very tender and sore. They scanned and ruled out a DVT. But it seems it is some protein imbalance which is causing the water to congenial ( do not think that is the correct spelling.

So up my diet to include more protein and take the diuretics he has prescribed for two weeks.

Thank you again.

Glad you were able to see someone and put your mind at ease that it was not a DVT.

At least you have a diagnosis now and hopefully the treatment they have suggested works for you.

Good luck.
