I used to rub an ice cube around before injecting when I first started. I don’t bother any more. It never made it hurt more though. How long are you leaving it on?

Left it on for 15 minutes but it stung so much x

That’s a long time, I iced it for about 30 seconds.

I have never iced. I wonder, did you remove it from the fridge sometime before to let it warm through a little? I usually remove it when starting to prepare supper then inject ( in thigh... my choice) after supper. It does sting but I always think it’s only for a few seconds and I only do it once a week. A small sacrifice for the vast improvement in my daily health , mobility and pain. Hope next injection is less painful for you.

I took it out three hours beforehand my left thigh hurts more than the right. I tried the stomach but that wasnt very nice either x

Have you been injecting for some time now and is this a change to your normal experience? I must say it is “ ouch” and I do have an incredibly high pain threshold but if you have experienced many tolerable injections you may have done something like caught a muscle ( I have no idea if that is possible)? Do try to relax as I am sure tensing up won’t help. I try not to overthink it, check skin quickly for any bruises or cuts then just do it and grit my teeth! Hope it improves for you.

I started 5 weeks ago. When injecting in right thigh its fine but my pain threshold is pretty bad. I thought ice may hekp but will try again next week and see. I counted to 27 quickly as want it over with. I grit my teeth and its fine. I think im just still nervous of it. Will get better x

I have been on Benepali since 2009 and this has never been suggested to me so I've never done it. I take the injection from the fridge at least 30 minutes before injecting and religiously rotate the injection site - left leg, right leg, left stomach, right stomach and back to left leg. I've never had a problem with injections sites. Some weeks the injections is slightly painful but nothing that is not bearable.

Hi

I found my thigh very painful to inject. I now do mine in my stomach it's so much better, can't feel it all. It was getting to the point I was dreading doing the injection it actually made me bleed, injecting my thigh. It's worth trying but always inject away from your belly button. Hope this helps you take care and stay safe

I walk about with it under my arm pit to warm up quickly, watched nurse do this first time, only takes a few mins. I found them stingy at first but has lessened with time.

Hi Ms-D

Enbrel always bled more but hurt less to inject while Benepali stings like a b$$$ard but doesn’t always bleed.

I’ve found a good shout out loud while I jam it in my thigh does the trick.

Hope you find a way to relieve the ouch.

Yes it sure does need some getting used to. I was injecting Benepali into tops of my thighs and it really does hurt there. It would take me hours to psych myself up to do it... sometimes I’d leave it overnight! An ice pack made no difference for me and I tried a local anaesthetic cream which was a waste of money. So...

It’s worth taking out of the fridge and let it get to room temperature.

After years of injecting in my thighs with Enbrel then Benepali I just couldn’t bring myself to change to my stomach until a couple of months ago and yep it is a lot less painful. Wish I’d followed advice to swap before. I grab a bit of ‘muffin top’ to the right or left and it’s so much easier to accomplish and with less swearing :)
