A great step forward to getting people what they need so desperately 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Now that sounds eminently sensible. Thank you for sharing
Maybe they are realising they have made so many “U no wot ups” it’s time they got themselves sorted!
But I am not holding my breath!
Ooh I do love a fellow cynic. It's either that or experience
There's going to be quite a back log of people who have had cancelled ops (I know of at least 6 waiting, 2 of which will be major surgery) because of Covid, then there will be some who have needed ops during the lock down and then some who have had complications as a result of covid. So as you rightly say AC I hope they get things sorted. Thanks for sharing
I posted because one lady on here has mentioned she is desperate to get her surgery completed..I hope she sees it.......I can’t find her post.
I'm not sure how that will go down with my OH's employers. He's furloughed at present but once back to work I can't see them being happy for him to take two weeks off to isolate with me before my TKR!
Don’t be too worried yet......I doubt if these surgeries will come along for a few months yet..... All the hospitals that have had Covid patients will need deep cleaning ....the staff will need to be reallocated, and the operating theatres will need to be put back into full operational use.
And that’s without all the pre-op assessments that will need to be done.
If your husband is back at work, he would probably have to take the time off as leave so it would probably be better if he took it off after you’ve had the surgery?
I know it will be a while yet, but hopefully sometime this year. I've been on the list for 15 months already and am really struggling. You are right that I would prefer him to be off post surgery rather than pre but we'll have to cross that bridge later.
When my TKR due 1 April was cancelled the preceding Friday the consultant's secretary said that those who'd been waiting the longest would be prioritised. However, the hospital's website has a banner saying they are reviewing all planned operations and will decide which are urgent and will go ahead and which will be rescheduled. I'm hoping this will mean any urgent ops that were cancelled will be rescheduled sooner than later. Its only about 7 months since I was referred but it was classed as urgent hence originally being scheduled for 1 April (its 10 degrees out of alignment). Now my so-called good knee is getting much worse so I really hope that it gets rescheduled in the not too distant future as I can only stand/walk for 15 minutes now at most before my knee locks up.
Shielding for two weeks prior to the op isn't really an issue, I've not actually been out other than to put the rubbish in the bins for 8 weeks now (partly due to a very flat car battery that I need to get charged). I also gather that they are intending CV19 testing anyone three days before the ops to ensure they don't have it which is good.
Fingers crossed Maggsie you get a date scheduled sooner than later.
I feel your pain, I have knock on deterioration in my other knee and one of my hips. I can now only walk a few metres and having to do that with a stick. I've been trying to get a joint steroid injection but GP says it's too risky at the moment, so I'm trying to persuade my temp consultant to do it for me. Here's hoping.
I hope you do get the steroid injection, albeit that I know they are reluctant to give them because of all going on.
Unfortunately my worst fears have occurred and I've been advised that they can't reschedule the TKR because I've had the shielding code applied to my medical records as being extremely vulnerable even though it is incorrectly applied. So now I've got to try and get it removed and hope they will then reschedule sooner than later. I've been on crutches for 7 months now and things are getting much worse and this is further damaging my shoulders because of having to push down so much so that's an added issue to deal with at some point.
Makes sense. I had an op 10 March just before the virus intensified and we went to lockdown. To ensure I don’t get a cold/infection prior to the op I stayed home most of February.
My daughter's partner's dad is due for surgery, he's been told to self isolate for 3 weeks. Annoying thing is he is being sent to a different hospital for it but that very hospital isn't doing their own patients. Its treatment centre taken over by NHS during covid19 but can't start their own patients until at least end of June. I'm having my op there, should have been 2 weeks ago but I have to wait.
