Terrible foot pain.

Up until a few months ago, I was having terrible problems with feet and ankle pain. My rheumatologist referred me for orthotics, who discovered my arches had partially collapsed and that I'd developed Haglunds deformity in my ankles (a bone growth thst causes bursitis in the Achilles heel), both of which he believed were a side result of my RA. They made me custom insoles to wear in my shoes, which have been helping a lot for the past few months.

But for the last week or so I've been experiencing terrible sharp pains in the side of my right foot. It comes out of nowhere and honestly feels like somone is repeatedly stabbing my foot with a knife. It happened again last night while I was asleep, making me leap up yelling. This morning my foot and ankle are both stiff and sore.

This used to happen to me a lot before the orthotics. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Just wondering if it's an RA thing or something else. Whatever it is, I could do without it right now!

yes, i get that too, and have since RA appeared in 2015, reminds me of Terry Pratchett's Wee Free Men who love drinking, fighting .... and stabbing. G'kids know the WFM are in residence when I give a [wee] shout. Think it may be neuropathy, like burning soles, but I just live with it/them and occasionally tell them to 'get lost' tho' less politely, with feeling. no remedy that I know of, sorry x

Thanks GranAmie. At least it's not another ailment for me to worry about then. I like the analogy of the WFM!

Yes, I have all those pains, even when wearing supports in my shoes.

Sorry you suffer with it too. I have to say the foot pain is one of my least favourite parts of RA. Not that I have a favourite part....😬

Hi mjrminor

I think you should go back to your rheumatologist again and tell them you're still getting pain,

I had right flat foot reconstruction surgery, I had collapsed arch too and a lump coming out of my ankle that was taken away in surgery

...the pain was shocking I had a simple test to try to tiptoe on my right foot needless to say I couldnt do it ! I was told it's one of the biggest operations they do I was in half plaster for 2 weeks then full plaster for 6 and physio afterwards .x

Sorry to hear you've had such terrible trouble with your foot and I hope the surgery has made a big difference. I do want to talk to my rheumatologist but it's difficult right now with everything going on and the helpline currently shut down at my local hospital. I'm also shielding because of my asthma so I think I'll have to wait until this all over.
