Hi guys, does anyone has painful feet? My right sole of my foot is extremely painful in that it's unbearable to walk on it. Yesterday I was on my feet for about 20 hrs and now I want to cry with the pain. I got some new work boots and it's excruciating wearing them. I have my insoles from the hospital and it doesn't make any difference. My right big toe is swollen as the next 3 toes are too. My left foot hurts too just not as bad! I am sat up with my feet on a puffy. I really don't know what to do. Hope everyone has a good weekend. Thank you for listening. Take care.

Painful foot
Hallo. Just to add to a long list of my own woes, I have very painful feet as I have no padding left on the balls of my feet which is excruciating, typically RA induced and a bloody nightmare when walking. I too have swollen toes.
So I really sympathise with you - sounds like something’s sparked off your swollen feet and you’ll need to find out why.
In the short term, and over the weekend, try soaking your feet in either very cold water or, if you can’t stand it, warmed up. You could try rubbing Voltarol gel or Ibuprofen gel into your soles and toes and take Paracetamol regularly until you see someone. Ibuprofen tablets are systemic and it takes a while to get the anti-inflammatory effect so the gel’d be better in the short term. All best and hope you get some answers next week.
Carol, you have my sympathy’s. I too have pain in my feet and toes, but my heels are the worst. I can’t walk barefooted and have to always wear slippers with thick soles, or my orthopaedic boots with their custom insoles, but the pain is still there.
Ice, so freeze a bottle of water and roll foot over it. Then ask to see an orthoedic surgeon to see if you you have Morton’s Nueroma and if you do it can be removed. Finally can you get better work boots? And sorry I’ve never had swollen toes but did the boots make your feet sweat and get irritated?
sounds like plantar fasciitis. The best thing I found to help was alternating cold/ heat with a min of each for around 10 mins. Using a tennis ball, or even a chilled bottle of water to massage the sole helps
Yes. My feet are bad too. RA is a disease that just keeps on giving.
I have RA in my feet. It might sound hokey, but HOKA shoes really help me. They are ugly and bulky, but also lightweight, stable, and very cushy. Have worn nothing else for months now and my feet are definitely better. I had massive pain in the balls of both feet, and in toes, and could barely walk at all. Very painful at night too. Sounds like you need first aid for now, but when things calm down, maybe consider trying the shoes. They haven’t cured me (:-)) but really do help keep me mobile.
Hello Carolsos, I have foot pain , its been around since I had a Hysterectomy over 30 years ago. Its one of those pains that the more you walk the worse it gets , definitely in balls of feet. I have insoles from hospital and I have bought some of my own. I try my best to control by walking smaller distances, there is swelling too in big toes, plus I have had broken metatarsal foot bone in the past three years. I use a warm wheat bag and wrap it round my feet plus wooly socks where pain is concerned good looks have to come second (smiles). Rest takes the pain down too especially if its gouty pain. Pacing is very important in foot pain i.e don't overdo it. Last but not least sensible shoes like trainers , there are many foot comfort shoes and a small heel helps rather than totally flat shoes.
Thank you all for your replies and I will try the iced bottle. I have just got back into walking so this is annoying happening now!! I will also look at more comfortable safety boots for work. Take care.
Just one other thing I have CKD and it’s common to get gout with that. I don’t have it but a friend does and I understand it can be treated well so don’t assume it’s all down to RA and see your GP and ask about gout. X
I had a bad flare and I couldn't walk on it at all then other things began to flare wrist, fingers etc had to end up getting a steroid injection now got to change meds
I saw some ice pack slippers on Amazon and recommended them to a friend who has plantar fasciitis. She's a teacher and spends her day on her feet. She has found them really helpful to pop on when she gets home and puts her feet up with a cuppa.
Yes I have a bone spur in the ball of my foot so wear gel pad type toeless sock over it to protect it. My large toes hurt too from time to time so aI cool them off as best I can in bowl of tepid water with epsom salts , or ice them before putting shoes on.
I try to wear fit-flops as much as possible hate wearing closed shoes, and can only wear very soft shoes.
Feet seem to be the bane of our lives . 😬
Hi Carolsos,I’m not a Dr obviously but it definitely sounds as though you have the same as I had.I have RA in right foot predominantly too.My right big toe plate put in to straighten. The 2nd toe wire put in to straighten. It had basically folded in half!Excuse wording but too late to get terminology right lol.Anyway they also had to shorted bone in 2nd toe. This is what caused the “lump on sole of foot.I totally understand the pain is horrendous to put it mildly. You have my sympathy.I would suggest a referral to Orthopedic Surgeon.Basically it sounds the same as me.I am going back to work tomorrow after 16weeks sick leave. But well worth it.My surgeon told me only way to fix is to shorten bone to take pressure off sole of foot.
