How will this be policed? If a person is well, what is to stop them going out in their car for a drive, even going to the shops, providing they keep their distance and avoid busy times. I fear this isolation will have a terrible impact on those who live alone. older people need stimulus and company also exercise and fresh air.

Hi, it doesn’t need policing at the moment. Perfectly fine to be doing those things, shopping, trip in the car for a quick change of scenery..at the moment!! They’re not enforcing anything at the moment here in the UK but that time may come but even then essential trips will still be allowed I’m sure. It’s all about social distancing and isolating if you have symptoms..and not going into crowded restaurants and bars. We all need fresh air and some exercise but it’s using our common sense. Best wishes and keep well xx

That is apparently being addressed...if present systems start to have effect...some of the stricter rules may be softened.

Bottom line this virus has to be controlled or it will be like living in the wilds of Goodness knows where.

It must be really frightening for so many different industries....but it has to be done methodically.

They are now talking of closing the airports....& to bring them back on line will not be a 24hr operation.

It’s just holiday makers who fly...it’s lots & lots of freight both in & out that earn this country lots of money.

Don't know if it will make any difference to your kids situation, but I heard today that the EU will soon be making large amounts of money available to compensate businessis throughout the EU, includng the UK. Maybe BoJo will have a rethink about bars, etc. Then again..............

The French approach may be strict but at least small business will get compensation as they have been forced to close. Perhaps that's what the fines are for! 135€ if you break the rules

It’s all about common sense.

I,m sure older people will be well looked after...there are many groups in all walks who are getting together to get help to the needy or housebound .....no matter what their age .

Shopping ,URGENT hospital /doctor appointments + online & telephone support is being organised for those who need it.

For now everyone can still go out. ...and the housebound will hopefully already have help in place .

But do let me remind you- there are many 70+ living alone who will manage fine. We.....can cook, we can read ,we can use technology & we don’t expect instant gratification for everything...if we need to wait a day until a kind neighbour brings our shopping ...that’s fine...as long as they don’t forget the wine!

After all...not all 70+ plus have ongoing health issues. It’s widely accepted that today’s 70 year olds are as fit if not fitter than obese, smoking 50 year olds.

It is true that all 70+ will have a less robust immune system than a young person....but over the years they build up stamina.

Of course those on HU sites do have health conditions....but with modern drugs a lot are feeling a lot better than 10 years ago.

So we really should look out for everybody who can’t manage ,male or female, young or old.
