Hello I am on Sulfasalazine and MTX and am having some very vivid and disturbing dreams. Could this be anything to do with the meds?

It could be I suppose, but I haven't heard anyone on those meds mention it before. I've had loads of vivid dreams with tramadol, still do, but it's an opiate so not unusual perhaps. I've had some animated bad dreams too when I've hurt myself lashing out at some fiendish foe or other. :-O

Hi Reving, well you have certainly helped me explain why I too was having such vivid dreams and nightmares! Also as others have said in reply to you my mood became very negative and the slightest thing made me very angry and hurt. Fortunately I had a flare whilst on Methotrexate and Sulfusalizine which lasted 5 weeks and I saw my local doctor who took me off MTX and SSZ and gave me steriod tablets to take which did the trick. Pleased to say that stopping the SSZ has helped my moods considerably. Back on the MTX as normal. Thank you for speaking up about the SSZ side effects.

I had very vivid dreams and nightmares on sulfasalazine too. In the end it didn't work for me anyway and I came off it, but it was a bit disturbing while it lasted. Worth mentioning next appointment. Unless itt's very bad, in which case try and talk to the rheumatology dept asap.

Sleep is elusive enough as it is with RA without having to deal with nightmares.

All the best
