Some Good News

Well I had the DEXA scan before starting another RA drug and the results are back only a 4% chance of broken hip in next ten years and 9% chance of any other broken bone in same period. Along with so many negative results for conditions and vitamins, I've never heard of !

How do they work these statistics out !!! I wasn't sure whether to be pleased as clearly good bones or, laugh at the it appears to me, sheer randomness of nature. Me thyroid is broken , me blood is lacking in VIT12, me kidneys busted, me joints ache and creak with RA, me fatigue is awful, me walk with a stick as RA has made me old before me time BUT my bones are young and very healthy. lol

I'm pleased some part of your body is working !

As you say the randomness is bewildering.

I always wonder how they actually expect you to believe they know the exact bone you are likely to break?

I fractured my radius falling over a cushion at home...so I had a Dexa scan...got told I now had an 8% chance of breaking my hip.

‘They’ weren’t amused when I asked what about the other arm as I’d broken one already!

Tbh- I reckon it’s guess work done by the Tea Lady on her break! ☕️☕️☕️

I loved your post, I am feeling a bit bewildered by it all not sure what to take any notice of anymore so I stopped alandronic acid this week as they make me sick but Dexa Scan says probability of a majorfractureis 36.4%and hip fracture10.7% what are you supposed to do? Glad somethings going right for you!

I was offered alandronic acid but I refused as two cousins were taking it and said - like you - they felt really sick the whole time.

When I read the letter my rheumatologist had sent to my GP he informed her he had offered me the AA and I had refused-then in brackets he had put “must say I don’t blame her”!

Can't believe they try to put you on a drug they know is going to make you sick and if you hadn't known probably would have prescribed it also I heard it can make your jaw crumble (not a good look) |

Maybe I’ll regret it if I do break another bone.......but in fact I am now more conscious of falling & I do make sure I pick my feet up outdoors & indoors make sure I don’t leave a magazine beside my chair to slip on & I try to ensure all the charging cables we use these days aren’t left trailing to trip over.

If Yannibaci’s explanation of how they work out the %’s is correct ..you must be 4 times older than me... Which would make you the oldest woman in the world,

I’m sticking with the Tea Lady explanation!👻

Definitely........after I broke my arm falling over a cushion in my bedroom I was inundated with suggestion that I should sleep in a padded cell!

Oh god that was bad luck but I am very very carefull about leaving things about I actually saw an advert somewhere about wearing a padded thing around your lower half so if you do fall your hips would be more protected, bit better than a padded cell . Ha Ha!

I know that feeling! I have rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and spinal stenosis. The results of my bone density was excellent. I’m just as lost as you are.😊 We just have to keep taking those pills and hope for the best.

Have a beautiful day.

Congrats! Amongst all that mayhem you have a good result :) They work the data out statistically, one is a comparison with the general population and the second is a comparison with your age group. So glad you got good results, mine were terrible, unfortunately it appears to be my genetic lot in life 😂 cheers Deb
