Hi Dylan

I'm sorry to hear you're not well and when you're so young too. I'm afraid I know nothing about your disease but hope that someone who does replies to you or there may be another group just for JIA. I wish you well and all good things in your life x

Hello, I can't help you with JIA experience, but do you know about NRAS? Their website has most information about JIA you could absorb. It is worth having a read. They also have a wonderful helpline with knowledgeable and friendly staff. Also have a look for JIA in the search window. You might find something useful there. I know of people with JIA and they manage well. I wish you all the best.

P.S. avoid Dr.Google please.

Hi Dylan. Even though I am 44 now, I was diagnosed with JIA. Unfortunately, my diagnosis came a number of years from when my symptoms first began, therefore I have significant joint damage during those years where I was not taking medication. Now I take hydroxychloroquine and arthrotec which seem to work well for me. How do you feel about the diagnosis? It’s good that you’ve reached out to talk to others about it. I took the view that I would focus on what I could do versus what I couldn’t. Listen to your body and rest when you need to. Having JIA didn’t stop me from having a good career in finance and I’m sure you will find that it won’t hold you back either. Hope you find help on this forum and keep in touch 😊

Hi Dylan

JIA is, to my knowledge, RA that strikes before or by age 16.

There are others here (not me though) who have/had JIA.

Hang in, they are probably busy or having a hard time but likely to respond.

Quite a bit of info on the NRAS website meantime: nras.org.uk/search?q=JIA

Wishing you the best way forward for you. 🙂

Hiya Dylan. Whilst there are members here you have/had a diagnosis of JIA they are few. I don't know if this site is specifically meant for you as it seems to be more related to parents of children with JIA (I suppose because those younger than yourself wouldn't ordinarily be inclined or able to have use of it) but you could try introducing yourself healthunlocked.com/jia

As well as the RD site NRAS do have a dedicated JIA site too, it might be worth a read through jia.org.uk/

If you are tempted to wander through the web please do keep to reputable sites, there's a lot of nonsense out there that can cause unnecessary concern. Your Rheumy or nurses will steer you in the right direction or answer any specific queries you have. I wish you all the best in controlling your condition, I hope you respond quickly & this doesn’t stop you doing what you planned to do prior to diagnosis. 🤞🏼😊

So sorry to hear your diagnosis. NRAS have a separate section dealing with JIA, they have loads of info, and arrange get-togethers , and peer support. You can look online, and/or ring the helpline.

It's such a lot to cope with at your age, but the good news is that there are so many treatments available nowadays. Don't be tempted to consult Dr Google, stick to NRAS and Versus arthritis to get the facts. Knowledge is power!

Best wishes, do pop back and let us know how you're getting on . We're a friendly lot, and there are lots of people who have been diagnosed when young, who no doubt could answer some of your questions.

Hi Dylan, well done for finding your way to this site. It provides a lot of very valuable psychological assistance to folks suffering in many different ways from Rheumatoid Disease (RD), and also lots of helpful words in respect of treatments and their effects.

So, although you have been pointed to JIA and Parents with JIA (that one is a very new site, isn't it?), you may prefer to stick around here and see what you can learn.

Dunno if you can find your way to my profile, but if you do, you'll see that I am dad to a lad diagnosed with JIA. He's pretty ancient now though (a venerable 21 years or so). He's somewhat dyslexic, and although he spends his life on computers (and XBOX), he doesn't show any inclination to participate on this or other RA/RD sites.

I kind of do it for him, to try to keep myself acquainted with all the ins and outs of this disease (diseases?) so that I'll be in a good position to give him advice if ever he needs it, and to help monitor the effectiveness of his treatment.

Anyways happy to tell you whatever I can, and try to answer any questions you have. All the very best to you on your journey.
