Good morning Everyone, I hope you are all as well as can be? I need to fill out a Housing Medical Assessment form, unfortunately the last time I filled out one I received no points. Are there any sites or organisations which help Disabled people in doing this form? I have been trying to get through to my local CAB but their lines are constantly busy.

Help Please!! Has anyone had experience please of filling in a Housing Assessment Form?

There are usually a few (very small font ) lines on the forms about contacting them in you need help filling them in . They can come out and help you . Like all these things , it’s how it’s written that counts
There is a good leaflet about this available here: mysurgerywebsite.co.uk/webs...
It points out that "You should be aware that having a serious illness or disability in itself is unlikely to result in you receiving additional priority – and most applications are not successful. It is only if you can show that your illness or disability is being made worse by existing housing conditions that cannot be put right that you will be awarded ‘medical priority’ or points. If you are living with other people whose health is also being affected by the conditions, they should make a separate application. Whoever is being affected the most by the housing conditions is the ‘main medical priority applicant’. "
I think most people think that it is their disability which gives them priority but it is showing that your existing housing conditions make your disability worse that is the key. So, for instance, if there are steps or a lift which doesn't work, making it impossible for you to go out, that would have an effect on your disability. If you need a wheelchair and the doors are too narrow for you to get from one room to the next that will affect your ability to care for yourself, etc. So thinking how your housing is affecting you is the key.
Good advice from oldtimer and others. My advice would be not to be afraid of lengthy applications, just put down the truth and if you can go to the Council's office or the local housing societies office for advice. Most of these forms are pretty straightforward and so best of luck.
Thanks everyone really appreciate the pointers, hope you are all having a good day.
Don't know where you live but my doctors surgery hold a CAB surgery, I think once a month, and some libraries also, I am in North Yorkshire. Maybe worth giving them a call to see if they can help. Also my brother had help with the form from a local Councillor, a few years ago now. Like old-timer says it is not the disability itself but things that make it worse. My brother has mental health issues, anxiety and learning difficulties. Local youths were harassing him, egging his windows, calling him names etc. The Police were involved and he had to log incidents. He was successful in getting extra points and housing in a nicer area. Good luck.
