I've received a letter to say I'm getting a home assessment which is a bit of a surprise as I didn't request one! Has anyone else had this happen? How did the assessment go? Any advice gratefully received!
PIP Home Assessment : I've received a letter to say I'm... - NRAS
PIP Home Assessment
Remember do not overestimate what you can do and do not underestimate what you can't do. If you can, try to arrange for a relative or friend to help you, so they can make the tea etc. (better still- go without). If it hurts you to do a task, then say so. If you need help from someone to complete an event then, again say so. If it takes you a long time (more than twice an able bodied person) to do something, again tell them. If you don't mention something they will ot know how it affects you. Most importantly, do not put on a brave face, and extra make up - if you feel like cr*p then say so and act like it (don't overact - even they can spot that). Just act normally, as you would if any stranger came round. And good luck.
My assessment was at a centre 45mis drive away, when I complained it turned out there was centre 5mins away from me... Was this a test?
As previously advised, Do have someone with you (as a witness and to temper your replies) Do not over estimate what you can do... Act normally... But above all, please reply to all questions based upon your worst day ONLY!
Best of luck
I had a home assessment and mine went well. The man who did it could see how bad I am. He was very nice. xxxx
I’ve posted at length here see rejected pip
Winnie53, I had an unexpected home visit. All the above replies are correct . I have OA, PSa, melanoma . Will your partner/carer be there with you ? If the answer is yes please note they may ask you how you wipe your bottom so you both need to answer that your carer helps you. I read on a previous post that the gentleman was asked this question and was quite outraged. I told my hubby about it , we both agreed with the gentleman & had a little giggle at the unfairness of such a private question & wondered if i’d be asked it. Sure enough it was one of the first questions I was asked, so answered truthfully that if I need help I get it from my husband , he answered at the same time , if she needs help I do it . My assessor left shortly after & I got a 10 year award . So just in case , be forewarned 😂😘
Thank you. My partner will be with me so hopefully all will be well.
Hope everything goes fine Winnie xxx
All the best xxx
All the best with it we all know how stressful it can be.x
Thanks again for that. I'm a little confused about the food preparation question. I struggle to peel, chop etc and am very clumsy due to deformities in my hands but I believe they ask if you can cook an omelette. Surely that's not classed as a simple meal?
Hi Winnie53
I also had a home assessment without asking the lady that came to assess me was so lovely really listened to my answers very kind and understanding
Three weeks after my assessment I got a message to say they had all the information they needed a week later I got a letter saying that had awarded enhanced on care and enhanced on mobility
I cannot tell you how relieved I was after all the negative reports I read about how nasty and horrid the assessors were and how they lied I was absolutely terrified
but thank God it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought
Fingers X it will be the same for you
where about di you live xx
