Hi everyone

Im on MTX injections and this is my second day with swollen tonsils. A bit of pain so Im eating soft foods. Is this a normal side effect or because my immune system is low?

Hi Frankie, I'm sure one of the more knowledgeable members will be along, but I wouldn't be one bit surprised if it is related to your low immune system. Might be a good idea to let your rheumy know about it.

My personal opinion is it’s probably to do with your lowered immune system, all these meds for RA leave us wide open to any infections, if you work in an office or any enclosed environment you tend to pick them up pretty quick!. Hope your well soon 🤗 X

How long have you been on MTX? Swollen tonsils aren’t known as a side effect, and are usually because you have a throat infection.

But sometimes colds and coughs just happen whether or not you take these drugs. Some people find they get a few more than they used to, or that they last a bit longer. With others there’s no difference.

Keep an eye on your temperature and if it increases then pop off to your GP.
