Hair loss

Hydroxy.....I’ve been on this now to supplement pred and Abatacept for about 7 weeks. A way to go to see if it helps but my hair is falling out. Every time I shower it flipping blocks the plug and my scalp shows through so badly now.

With badly controlled RD, osteo arth and a failing hip replacement I really don’t need this too.

Any tips anyone? I want to be strong but just feel like hiding way from the world 😖

Have you ever considered a hair topper? Have a look at this site, developed by a woman with lupus.

Hi, I've read a few posts on here that recommend the supplement Biotin for hair loss. I haven't tried it myself but will bear in mind if needed. Maybe worth a try?

Hi, cheers JFlay, today is my day to do research and I’ll include this. L

Hi LesBev

This is a problem I have had a few times over the years ( stress related)

about 10 years back a hairdresser recommended me using NIOXIN products and it worked for me then. over the years I have used it on and off.

My hair is also falling out again big time so I am back to using the NIOXIN

I have been rubbing the conditioner into my scalp before going to bed,it does feel very cold at first but its certainly helped with the amount of hair loss .

I buy it from Amazon , there is quite a selection of products at the moment I am just using the Scalp revitaliser conditioner number 3 as I already had it in the cupboard.

nioxin.com have a read

Take care x

Thank you, I’m going to spend today looking at the suggestions everyone has made.

It’s made me feel stronger knowing that although I live lone, we are all in this together. L

Will do, if we find something that works this is a great place to share it. Eggs for breakfast for me.

Then.....going to take my little dog for a short wander today.....he never cares how fast I walk or what I look like. 😉L

Hi LesBev - yes, another thing to add to the list, hair thinning/loss sadly. I have been saying, please God don't add this as well ☹️

It's so frustrating I don't want to comb my hair as more and more sheds.

I bought biotin tablets but then decided to bring back in eggs as they contain biotin. I have also sourced a good collagen supplement and increased protein. So fingers crossed. The one thing I would say, my goodness my 💅nails are fab 😁 they are growing so long! Never had that before. I am having people complimenting me.

I shall buy some of these hair shampoos mentioned. In the meantime, I shall try not to stress - my daughter said there are some nice wigs 😌. All the best.

Would you mind letting me know the name of the collagen supplement please? Thanks

Hi - so sorry I overlooked this. Here you go amazon.co.uk/dp/B07C6TQBRJ/...

It is fish based there are other ones you may prefer. There is no flavour to it.

If you need anything further let me know.

That's great thank you. I've been using Great Lakes bovine collagen but it gives me a terrible headache! Never thought to try marine collagen so I'll give this a go. Thanks again.

Hi Hessie....as if we don’t have enough to contend with. I agree, we have to try the shampoos and biotin etc but I don’t hold out much hope for hair regrowth. You made me smile as my nails are good too....but I don’t like long nails! How awkward am I?

It sounds like you have family support and that is such a valuable thing.

Warmest wishes to all families out there coping with our challenges, generally they keep their loved ones strong.

Hiya that was one of the first posts I did about my hair. About two years ago I recommend a good hairdresser and I use Phillip kingsle. He’s on QVC . I did have long thick hair now my hair seems to be settled but thin. But if you go on google you will see it doesn’t seem to matter what Dmards your on hair lose happens with them all. Or also find a good wig shop I no we have one near my hospital that’s what I also looked into. Also your not alone we all go through it 🙂

Please look into minoxidil...or the brand name: Rogaine. I've been losing my hair for the last 2 years since I first started experiencing RA. The drugs made it all worse, but I think it's my stress that had caused me to have chronic telogen effluvium. Nothing has helped me except rogaine. Biotin helps hair grow faster, not regrow hair. But if your hair follicle is still alive, rogaine will most likely grow it back, but you need to act quick. Wish I started this the moment I began losing my hair. I also recommend a supplement called Biosil. It's collagen. Wishing you the best. I know how terrible it is to go through this.

Not what you're looking for?
