Hello everyone I just wandered if anyone on hydroxy has experienced severe dry skin patches and blisters , currently on mtx as well , but I’ve only started having skin problems since being put on hydroxy ? Some of the blisters are quite deep , once they’ve erupted there really sore and taking a long time to heal , dry skin patches are also itching like mad ?

Many thanks in advance x

Hi riddles

I had hydroxychloroquine along with methotrexate for 2yrs 5months.

I never had skin blisters but did get those red pinhead spots, sore patches that would scab and generally itchy skin.

I think you need to report your symptoms ASAP to GP or rheumatology.

Hope you get to the root of the problem soon.

I’ve been on hydroxy for many years and have not had that happen to me. I think you should get checked by your GP as deep blisters doesn’t sound good and you don’t want them to get infected. Let us know how you get on.

Yes & they scar (without scratching) I have red spots not blisters. I’m on the same meds as you & I’m about to go on Amgevita.

Definitely go to see someone.

Have you had any tingling of mouth or tongue? I nearly went in to anaphylactic shock when I had started hydroxy. Don’t me to frighten you but mine started with a rash.

I developed massive psoriasis patch on my foot and sole. Just kept getting bigger. Saw rheumy and she told me to stop hcq. It is a stated side effect so just mention it at next visit

Hi riddles. I have red patches on my cheeks, forehead and chin and these can get quite flaky. I have been diagnosed with rosacea in the past but worse since I’ve been in hydroxychloroquine

Hope you get it sorted soon

Hello everyone and thank you for you for all your input , I think I need to stop taking hydroxy some blisters are infected and developed yellow puss after they’ve popped , they are on my wrists shoulders arms and legs and a few on my face , the dry skin is all over my neck it’s quite a large patch , I’ve got the little red patches of spots too and the dry skin is driving me crazy with the itching , so I’ve been putting diprobase on it to see if that calms it down , I’m going to ring the hospital Monday first thing , I do think it’s a side effect and I don’t want to carry on with hydroxy if this is the case , never had this before . I’d upload a pic but I don’t know how you do it on here ? Anyway thank you all so much so glad of this forum for advice xx

I’m glad you are getting them checked out it’s not good to leave them if they are infected. Hope you’re better soon.
