Skin problems

In recent months I have developed rough red patches on my face, mainly on my forehead and cheeks. I have RA and Sjogrens and Asthma.

I wonder if this problem is RA related or caused by my meds (MTX, sulfa, hydroxy).

It has occurred to me that people with Lupus get a facial rash.

I will get round to asking my rheumy nurse next month. Meanwhile, have any of you got similar problems?

it might be psoriasis? rubbing a tiny bit of olivr oil into the lesions might help to clear it up or make it less noticable

Thank you. I will try some olive oil. I don't know much about psoriasis, except it is certainly related to RA somehow.

lupus isn't usually rough red patches -its more often quite a smooth rash in a butterfly shape across your nose.

You could ask the rheumatology nurse, but really if you want to know exactly what it is then its a dermatology job. It could be psoriasis, but it could also just be longstanding sun damage (actinic keratoses) or any number of other things. Skin rashes can be quite hard to diagnose sometimes.

It is a bit butterfly shaped, but it is definitely not smooth.

I ought to brave a visit to my GP but it is so stressful just making an appointment!

Sjorgrens can dry out ur skin leaving it red , sore and often scaly. I've got this problem with mine and use a hydrocortisone cream prescribed by my GP Hope it clears up for u soon xx

That is interesting.

Up to now I thought Sjogrens was just eyes, nose, and mouth related. I hadn't realised it might affect my skin other than by just generally drying it out.

I have fine red scaly patches, on my cheeks, the sides of my nose and sometimes across my forehead, and it can get quite itchy.

So thank you, I will brave the GP.
