Hi folks. Just wondering if any of you have experienced sore/inflamed gums. Not sure if the Imraldi has anything to do with it, or could be just run down....
Sore gums: Hi folks. Just wondering if any of you have... - NRAS
Sore gums
It's very easy to get gum disease. But being on biologics can make you more open to this. However, like any other infection on biologics you need to take it seriously, so book an appointment with your dentist as soon as you can or phone your rheumy department.
I’m sure you’re probably doing this anyway, but be extra careful about oral hygiene right now too - lots of salt water gargles!
Hi Laura, I have had RA for 22 years. When I was first diagnosed, I found out I had TMJ as well (symptoms of TMJ, jaw locking and popping, hurting). About 3 months ago, I had the same flare up as you. My gums were sore/inflamed. It hurt to talk and eat. I had a cavity and thought it was because of that. But I have had cavity issues before and nothing close to that. Then I remembered I had an infusion, Rituxan. I called my RA specialist and the nurse finally called in an M pack (I believe that's what they called it). Well it was prednisone taken in different dosages daily, ie, 6 pills, 5 pills, 4 pills etc. That helped my pain. I had been suffering from a whole body flare up as well that same week. I didn't go to the dentist. But the medication/steroids that was called in helped me. I had never had my gums swollen/inflamed or hurting like that before. I do hope you get to feeling better. I feel your pain my friend 🤕
Hi, I was diagnosed with gingival plasma cell disorder, strangely enough after having taken Abatacept. The dental dept at Guys think it was most likely due to the biological drug. Can no longer take abatacelt as didn’t agree with me in several ways. Sadly the plasma cell disorder is for keeps as no cure but they treat it as and when it flares and I also developed geographic tongue when I started a different biological drug Tocilizumab. Cannot say 100% that is def the cause but huge coincidence and dentist says def not gum disease. I’d get it checked out ..... good luck
