Flare after stopping Humira

SufferingOnHumira profile image

After numerous side effects, I stopped Humira after 3 months. Last injection was 4/30. I’m waiting for arrival of my new med Kevzara. So I have been nearly a month with no meds and I’m having a super flare, Worst I’ve felt in 18 years. Is this typical when you stop Humira or is it my body responding to no meds? Any remedies you can recommend while waiting on Kevzara to kick in?

I know I replied to an earlier post - but I resonate with how you feel now as in same boat. Intense pain, left me curled up in bed. I phoned my rheumy and begged for Prednisone to get me through. It is helping and I don't give a rats about side effects. (I was 2 months without meds)

Intense pain is so hard I just needed an out. You honestly need something until your biologic kicks in!

So sorry your flaring. I agree with Hessie5 ring your rheumy and ask for Pred. Big gentle hugs xx

To me that’s not a flare, but your disease getting fully active again. Sorry! Hassle your rheumy department on a daily basis....

I too stopped Humira in January, switched to cimzia which doesn’t seem to work at all so am switching again now. I agree it may be very active disease rather than flare. I have inflamed joints which have never been involved before :-(

I started a tapering dose of steroids 3 weeks ago and have relief now while I wait for the new biologic. Have also been on painkillers, but stopping them now as the steroids seem to be enough.

Hope it settles for you and you get relief. I kept the pressure on the rheumatologist as life was getting pretty unmanageable due to pain.

Meriva Turmeric, CBD oil, Boswellia

- Meriva Turmeric: I have been using 1 gram of Acqua Biome. The manufacturer is Enzymedica

- CBD oil: I use Floyld’s of Leadville. 50 mg two times per day.

- Boswellia: Standard dose is 300 mg 3xday. I use Savesta which is. 500 mg pill. It has 25 mg of AKBA which is what deals with the inflammation.

I’m 4 months going into 5 without any meds :( Cimzia stopped working and it’s taking the NHS Wales ridiculous length of time to sort out for me. Steroids has got me through but it’s been a rough few months to say the least.

Did you get sorted in the end ??

Yes I’m much better, thanks for asking. I finally received my new med, Kevzara mid May. I felt relief almost immediately after my first injection. Other than a sore, stiff neck, it seems to be working wonderfully. I’m thrilled to be pain free. April was a rough month.
