Hi,I am 38 yr old female with a 6 month old now ..I was on humira for 7 weeks and noticed my hair falling out very sad since the medication cleared 90 % my psoriasis .after washing my hair and seeing how much literally made my stomach turn....very hard to see this happen messaged my dr, and he said it’s probably postpartum but I didn’t wanna take the chance of him guessing so it’s been 1 month since my last humira shot and less than half the hair is coming out so I’d have to say yes it was the humira!,😂 Now I’m scared to try another biologic.

I’m sorry to read this. Have you talked to your rheumy team about this? I know that this can happen with DMARDS but have no idea bout Biologics. My understanding is that the Folic Acid we take is to combat the meds side effects inc hair loss but I am a novice at this. I am taking Folic Acid 2 time a week no less than 24 hours after I take the MXT. I can go up to 6 days a week.

I would go your rheumy team and ask for help?

🙂

Though I am obviously not able to say what caused your hair loss, I do know that its a quite common experience in the post partum period. For lots of new mums, and has been long before biologics were thought of. I have heard theories about hormone rebalancing, stress, vitamin and mineral depletion etc ,. I dare say your GP has seen it before.

Enjoy your baby and don’t despair of successful treatment. Good luck!

I take etanercept no hairloss but did have some with mtx. I do remember loose a lot of hair after having my children. Now I take marine powder collagen and that really has made a difference no hair loss . Hair and skin much better.

Hair loss can occur after birth even without drugs, this is more likely, it is not normally a side effect of this drug

Hair loss after childbirth or any severe illness is very common. Basically the hair stops growing and then falls out later. The hair follicles start re-growing hair but it's fine and short so that you can't see it to start with.

Have a look at the Dermatology Specialists explanation:

I had a similar experience with both Amgevita and Benepali. Its really awful on top of everything else. I stopped the biologics and returned to Methotrexate.

I’ve been on Humira 12 years and haven’t had any hair loss from this treatment, I had hair loss when I started Mtx, but stopped falling out after a few months. I think you should discuss this with your rheumy team, if you can tolerate Humira it’s an excellent drug. I know hair loss is very distressing so please get advice as soon as possible. All best wishes to you and your little one. X

I’m the same! I have a 14 month old and I’ve been Humira since January and my hair has become so thin and wiry. I lost a lot of hair with my first child but this seems a lot more. I’m giving it till my baby is 18 months, if it’s the same then it’s the Humira. I don’t want to stop the Humira as I feel a lot better than I did. Good luck, I’m finding it so hard x

If you have been breast feeding then this is normal. We don't shed any hair during pregnancy and breastfeeding so once you stop you lose the hair that would have been lost normally x

I lost loads of hair after i had my son. It was coming out in clumps everytime i washed it. It went really thin. Your hair doesnt shed while your prenant so you generally loose quite a bit after childbirth. Mines went on a long time. X
