Knee replacement

Hi everyone, had my knee replacement 5 weeks ago, still having pain but not as much as before,am now driving, doing the housework(?) going for short walks with the dogs, so feeling pretty pleased with myself! The RA has reared its head ahead after 6 months remission, but it’s not too bad, so will leave things as they are for now. Seeing the surgeon next week so hope he will say I’m ok, & that he will discharge me. 🤞

Getting there, the pain I’m having now is far less than before surgery, daytime is fine, but nights are sometimes difficult!

Glad everything went well, but (ever the pessimist in me) should you be driving before six weeks are up. Its great that you are i know. x

Hi Sylvi, did take advice from physio,& the nurse made sure I could do an emergency stop first, we are lucky in that we have an automatic, which helps. Pretty sure that all the walking I did with my dogs ( two hours a day) went a long way to the quick recovery! Just hoped that my experience would help others facing the Same surgery.

Oh good i was worried about you driving so early and the emergency stop is a good indicator if you can drive.xxxx

Must admit I was afraid it might be too soon, but my OH is disabled, we live in a small village with minimal public transport, so it was a huge bonus to feel I was capable! I’m only going to the supermarket which is only a 10 minute drive, I do get tired though, so will wait another few days before I go much further! X

God idea darling. I did the same the other week. As i haven't driven far for such a long i drove to the garden centre on my own which is between 20-30 mins away. My dh is going to go into hospital for a double hernia op and i needed to know if i was able to drive distances when he comes out. Happily i can as long as my neck holds out.xxxx

Well done you! I have been a “petrolhead “ since I was 12 years old, & started driving tractors! Do love my cars, lost a bit of confidence a couple of years ago when a lorry driver decided it would be fun to drive into the boot! Wrote the car off, though we were both ok,it was a huge shock! Hope your OH will feel better after his operation, he must be feeling very uncomfortable now. X

It’s great that you seem to be recovering nicely. Only one thing I thought of is check your car insurance because my daughter had a c-section a month ago and was told she couldn’t drive for 6 weeks. She was told that unless she got the ok from her GP or a doctor her insurance may not cover her in the event of an accident. Better safe than sorry.

Thank for that, have been told all ok!

Hi! I too dreaded mine, but as I was in so much pain, especially the two weeks before I welcomed it! Yes I had the spinal, can honestly say I never heard or saw a thing! & would certainly do the same when my left knee is done! Also think the fact that I walked my dogs twice a day for at least an hour each time, that built up the thigh & calf muscle really well, so would recommend it, but everyone is different, I kept forgetting to use the crutches & when I went for physio the therapist agreed I didn’t need them, that was just two weeks after the op, but a neighbour was still using them after eight weeks, I still have pain mostly at night, but even that is easing now, would I do it again? If I was in the amount of pain, yes in a heartbeat! Good luck with yours, hope all goes well
