Sore throat with Adalimumab (amgevita)

I started on Amgevita a few months ago and I seem to notice that a couple of days after I inject, I get a sore throat. It never seems to progress into anything more, but just frustrating getting the sore throat so regularly and just as it wears off, its time for the next injection and the process starts again!Does anyone else get regular sore throats without infection? X

I didn't get sore throats but my ears felt like someone was sticking hot rods into them. Had to give up after about 4 months.

How bizarre, I've had this, only had 4 Injections and it doesn't last long, but so painful, just in one ear, takes your breath away.

Weird eh! I had a both ears and pretty much all the time. It was like a weird form of torture.

How awful. How long was you on it for?

Can't remember now. About 5 months maybe. A good amount of time.

Yes I used to get headaches and sore throat every time. I'm on something else now, it wasn't effective for me in the end. Hope that eases for you and the Amgevita is working for your RA.

Thank you, to be fair it's working for my arthritis so will perservere for now and see if it improves, the joys of side effects eh! X

Yes, I’ve been on Amgevita for about 8 months now and seem to get the beginnings of a sore throat but it never develops. I hadn’t associated it with the drug but your symptoms and pattern ring true for me. I’m about to switch drugs anyway as not finding it very effective and experiencing a few flare ups.

Yep I'm convinced it's the drug :( hope the new one has better side effects for you x

I do get extra catarrh - thick white stuff - after the injection. It gradually wears off until the next injection and then is really bad for a few days before gradually subsiding. I have been so much better from the joint point of view that is it only a minor problem for me.

It depends on your own risk/benefit assessment. How much trouble is the throat? How much relief do you get from your Rheumatoid Disease? There are other biologics, but if you find one that really works, then giving up for anything other than a major problem would be unwise.

Thank you, I've tried a couple of other biologics already and this one for the most part has been controlling my joints well so guess i have to prioritise that- it's a relatively mild sore throat but just frustrating that i have it now most of the time as i only get relief for my last few days before I'm due to inject again! Also get some sinus pain with it too but still better than joint pain so it's the lesser of two evils x

Hi, yes I get a mild sore throat, and sinus pain, I'm quiet new to the drug, but tolerate it better than the methotrexate, which gave me headaches, snd sickness

Yep that's exactly what I'm getting, it's generally only mild so will tolerate it but just a bit frustrating :( I also had awful side effects with methotrexate so guess I can't complain on this one! Hope you find the drug more helpful x

How very strange. I was on Humira and now Amgevita for a couple of years. I can't say I have noticed any side effects. I'm just about to inject my leg, ( never tummy ) iwill be taking notice, I'm sure. X
