Dodgy pen.

I injected my benipali on Saturday morning, the pen only clicked once, so I took it out and used another one, was I right to do this.?

I have Enbrel not Benepali, and you can see whether it has actually discharged the liquid. One time it didn't make the normal noise, but the liquid had gone so I assumed it had injected.

Can you not see that with Benepali? If it hasn't injected then ask for a replacement.

That’s Interesting, the same thing happened to me last week, I waited and waited for the second click and eventually gave up. I didn’t use another one as you can see the liquid has discharged in the side window. I think you may have given yourself a double dose.

Sounds to me you may have taken too much of the med. Looked at instructions that say in this case you should contact your doc or pharmacist immediately. To be on the safe side perhaps you should. Hope you feel ok.xSimba

The Benapali pens don't seem to always click again, but do seem to discharge the liquid regardless. You can see if the drug has been discharged in the window; also if you angle the window towards you, you can watch the plunger discharge the liquid. If the pen doesn't click again I will remove it after about 10 seconds. I am finding that they frequently don't click twice now, maybe there has been a slight change in design.

I was on enbrel prior to Benapali and occasionally had problems with their pens, at times they wouldn't discharge. When I contacted the suppliers I was advised to tap them on a hard surface if this happened, and try again. This worked. I have never had to do this with the Benapali pens and find them far easier to use than the enbrel pens.

Please be careful, the dose can be seen through the window prior to injecting and clear afterwards. I would ring the Rheumy Helpline in the hospital today and ask their advice. You need to be safe. Xxxxx

I've had a couple of dodgy pens too. One didn't click second time so I removed it and the liquid squirted all over my leg! Another one didn't click but had actually injected liquid. If it happens again I will let homecare know.

Thank you all very much for your reply’s. I spoke to the pharmacist at health care at home and he said so long as the plunger hadn’t gone down then it was ok, the second click didn’t happen and the liquid was still in the pen. He and I agree that if the fridge is very efficient the pen needs to be left out for a lot longer, (the pen can be left out of the fridge for 28 days so long as the temp doesn’t go above 25 degrees. ) I hope this has been as helpful to you as it has been to me.
