Hec, that might be unanswerable. OH likes medium support before and now with RA. I like firm. I reckon medium are softer to sink into but firm are easier for turning over in the night. Mattresses in hotels in the USA seem the best combo. They are comfortable as they are very firm but have a thick(not memory foam) top to them. Horses for courses maybe?

I'm sorry your new bed doesn't feel comfy. maybe it will suit better as you yourself get better.

Would a comfort mattress topper help instead of another new mattress ??

Good possible solution.

I have a sprung mattress with a memory foam top. I find it really comfy as the top has moulded into my body shape, with wee spaces for my shoulder and hand. It is not too warm, as some memory foam matresses can be. I bought it from an Irish firm called kaymed.

Oooh, the mattress dilemma! I've had it up to the eyeballs with mattresses and would rather sleep on an airbed! Haven't found my dream one yet! For all those who have OH's, I know they make mattresses to suit both. I.E - firm tension one side, soft the other. It's a whole mattress and you can still meet in the middle for hugs etc.....

We have super king size which is two singles zipped together. Which means you can have different kinds to suit you both

I was having this exact conversation with my OH this morning, after yet another uncomfortable nights sleep. I look forward to reading all the responses. I'm thinking of a mattress topper, but not sure which one to choose.

we are thinking of going back to dreams and telling them that the mattress digs into me

I read its the pressure points and pressing on them

I think its because I have lost so much muscle sorry spelling

we have a 10 year ga so its worth a go to see if they will swop it

we nearly brought a -tempur- in bensons but I at the time didn't have RA so played no interest in a new mattress it was more for hubby and helping him

so wish now I had known what I know now and gone for the -tempur-

I have a nice thick mattress topper from bed and soak very thick filled with silk and polyester so doesn't get too hit and sweaty xx

I agree a good quality mattress topper should hopefully sort it. Wouldn’t recommend memory foam as I find it makes me hot.

I think you have to try different mattresses out if you're wanting to replace the one you have. Otherwise it's an impossible question to answer as each of our needs are different. If you just want to make your side of the bed less hard you could try a mattress topper, feather is what I'd recommend if you tend to get hot in bed as memory foam does make you terribly hot, well certainly mattresses made it of it can be. We had a very expensive one (1,000€ or thereabouts) & we're binning it when we move, actually the skip arrived an hour ago so it will be going in that! It's been on one of the spare bedrooms bed bases but it's gone mouldy, I guess from all the moisture it's held since coming back from living abroad.

The one we have at the mo is a pocket sprung but that will be replaced soon & we've only had it 5 years. With it being wool & silk we thought it would wick always moisture but it hasn't. My h ruins mattresses!

Hope this helps.

I have a feeling there are a few companies that if you find the mattress not comfortable you can change it. Try Google and check Ikea as I'm sure I've read about changing if not suitable.

About half of mattress retailers now require that you keep your mattress for a minimum amount of time before you can return it, usually 30 days. ... Owners who know right away, however, that they are not satisfied with their mattress do not like having to wait until they can return it.Jul 29, 2018

Good feather topper I would recommend, I sleep much better, our was a new mattress too which was very uncomfortable with R/Athritus until we got the topper hope this helped

I used a sophas pillow top, from John Lewis £790,the other nice mattress is a Hypnos executive cloud nine£599 the only two that worked for me and I have tried many try a topper first. John Lewis will let you try and return if not 😆

yesterday we brought a foam topper, its not a cheap one, so didn't get hot, ahhh it was lovely

because the night before we put our quilt duck feather under for me to lay on and that was bliss, first night sleep without turning in pain every turn, so we brought a topper yesterday

I have had two night sleeps without turning in pain for a year now, hated going to bed as it became a nightmare, bed meant pain for me

the springs were digging in to every part of my body, and because I have lost so much weight it was even worse, as I have no fat to cushion me

ahh I so didn't want to get up this morning. bliss
