Is BI Carbonate of Soda the cure for RA

shazbat profile image
37 Replies

Has anyone seen the new research about Bi Carb possibly being a control for the cells causing our RA. I was wondering if the NRAS had heard anything. A group of scientists looking at something else realised that drinking Bi Carb encouraged a group of cells to grow that prevented the naughty cells from attacking us as in RA. I have got pictures of the post if anyone wishes to see them. I will try and get a link.

Regards

I am taking bicarbonate daily. Keeps acids in stomach balanced as well as protects renal function. Don't really know about the anti-inflammatory effect. A much better alternative than PPIs!

It won't let me post the picture so if you go too. Augusta university Jagwire news. Ironically it was during investigations on the impact of acid in the stomach they actually found the changes on the spleen which they believe could impact the cells causing our RA.

how do you take it, and what one do you buy?

Half a teaspoon in a glas of water. Be sure it is well mixed. I buy the bicarbonate that can be used for cleaning as well as in preparing food.

I put a post up a few months ago when I saw an article about in the Daily Mail.

Interesting article apart from the information section bit at the bottom ‘patios can manage their symptoms with over the counter medications such as aspirin’. Wish I could manage mine with aspirin!

I did comment on the article about that. Said that people take tramadol and morphine for it and that asprins wouldn't touch the pain. They said the same a week or so ago when a other article about RA appeared. I just think it trivialises RA stating that.

My Granny used to take Andrews Liver Salts daily , I wonder if that product consists mainly of Bi Carb ?

VeronicaF profile image
VeronicaF

I just looked up liver salts

Andrews liver salts help balance the gases in your stomach. used as a laxative and hangovers

I had come across the benefits of bicarb but when researching for things to help the kidneys for my h. Unfortunately not for him as it makes him vomit. He tried a hangover cure when we were first married so 30 odd years ago (think I drove him to drink!) & immediately sicked it up, when I checked the label it was basically just bicarb, & lemon flavouring. Good though that it might be useful for us though. Used to love Andrews years ago, though can't remember why we had it because I didn't have any problems that would call for it!

I used to drink Andrews salts when we ran out of Creamola foam 😂 X

I'd never heard of Creamola Foam so googled it & I can imagine why you substituted Andrews, it sounds similar. When I was a child we had an orange drink that was made up with water from a powder. It was sold in a glass jar but can't for the life of me remember what it was called. It was a short word but it won't come to mind.

That sounds very like Creamola foam. It was a kids drink. Lots of different flavours, really sugary! I think it was made in Glasgow X

Looks interesting, and if it works would be really cheap and easy to do - but it does activate my "sounds too good to be true" alarm. What does helixhelix think? She's usually good on examining scientific claims.

Have a good day folks. xx

I can attest to the fact that it works for gout pain. Don’t know about RA, but plan to give it a try.

Well I just tried a teaspoon full in water and without going into too much detail ...... it went straight through me 🤡

I think you need to read the article it states over time it changes the amounts of different cells. It's written by scientists, its been trialed on mice and some humans but I think we would need to wait for possible research findings I have sent it to my specialist to see what he says.

Here is also a pretty good explanation on what baking soda does in our body and how it affects our immunesystem.

I wonder if a squeezed lemon, lime or orange juice has similiar effect but with other benefits of vit c, minerals and enzymes etc. Have read that Citrus juice is acidic but turns alkaline in the stomach hence maybe similiar effect to sodium bicarbonate?
