I’ve been ill for 12 weeks so been off my methotrexate. I’ve had 4 loads of blood tests done and 3 urine infections where I was really ill. Vomiting, fever, nausea, chronic fatigue, I’ve lost 10kilos! Turns out I had a kidney infection and it was resistant to the antibiotics the GP prescribed.
I spoke to a consultant yesterday who told me I had E.Coli and a kidney infection so I’m back on yet more antibiotics!
Has anyone struggled similarly whilst one methotrexate and hydroxy? Thanks for any information. M x

Well hey there marie66 mega cwtch to ya well I've been off my methotrexate due to the flu vac for a few weeks and lately had a urine infection have been wondering whether the methotrexate was keeping the UTI'S away as I have suffered with them from a teenager take care 😀
Hi there Marie, I have had 6 bouts of UTI infections this year. To begin with they didn’t seem to make me feel ill but now they do. They make me feel so tired, sick, cold & generally unwell. I have been off MTX but now back on Leflunomide & hydroxy. I thought I was clear of them now but yesterday I felt ill again. Now today I have had a a text from my GP asking me to do another sample because the latest one was inconclusive. I have no idea why I keep getting these infections. I am sorry this doesn’t help you but I would also like to know the reason for all the infections.
No your certainly not alone. I suffer a lot of urine infections and feel generally unwell. I am under the Eurology department . I’ve had ultra sound and due to have a cystoscopy on the 13th . I’m on a low dose antibiotic for three months and I’m not feeling very well on it . At least you know that your not alone. I do hope that you get yourself better soon . 💕
Hello Marie66, I also have been getting frequent urine infections with the E-coli bacteria. My Urologist ordered an ultrasound of the kidneys as I am prone to kidney stones, and found out that I had two in the left kidney which had to be removed by shock wave lithsotripsy. I also passed one (extremely painful) from the left kidney when I was 20 y.o. and removed one when I was 21 y.o. Anyway, the fragments from the surgery showed the make up of the stones which was calicium oxocalate and E-coli. I was put on a preventative/prophylactic medication, Methanamine, which is helping to keep the UTI's at bay. I hope that this was helpful.
Hi you’re not alone. I’m not on mtx but I’ve found the only way I manage to keep UTI’s at bay is probiotics one a day either pill or yogurt or kefir or whatever I generally change it up. Not easy when on antibiotics but I figure that as long as I don’t take them at the same time it’s ok and stops me getting thrush from said antibiotics which is a side effect of lots of them.
