HI! I've been having RA since i was 13 years old. I've been thru strong medications now being 26 years old my blood test results have been showing some abnormality on liver and kidney. Currently taking Remicade and methotrexate, I do have some flareups and extreme fatigue with it but was told if inflamation numbers don't go down we are going to increase medication. I really would want to stop the medations for them being so strong and affecting my kidney and liver. I am young and wish not to put all those toxins for the rest of my life. I also would want to become a mother soon. Is there anyone that has natural remedies/controlled RA without medications??? And would also want to hear how was pregnancy and birth having RA?

I can understand your wish to come off toxic medication - but be careful that you don't end up in a worse place with damaged joints because of lack of treatment. Please discuss your wish for pregnancy with your medical team so that they know how to advise you. And have a look at previous posts on here from people who have been through it all.

Yes it's frustrating, my doctor actually wants to put me in higher dose for medication because of my numbers but abnormal blood tests keep coming up and refuse too but i do need to keep in mind of future damage joints too. Thank you for your advise!

I believe that natural remedies can help but not cure RA. I eat natural foods—-meats, eggs, veggies, etc and stay away from most grains and packaged foods. I also take many supplements that have been suggested, but still need my meds. There is a big difference when I am off the meds. That being said, my pain level is low, blood work is good, and I have no real damage to my joints.

The post about minocyline and naltrexone is a good one. I used mino from 2004-8 with good results. It’s an antibiotic in the tetracycline family ( they give teenagers this for acne for years with no side effects). I took ONE MWF with zero problems. I believe I would have been fine with this but I got bit by a tick in 2008 and my body fell apart—tried all the lyme remedies I could to no avail—there are books on this by a Dr. Brown and a Dr Scammel and a website called roadback.com. It’s a forum like ours for Qand A. The low dose naltrexone is used to help with sleep and also has no side effects. It is discussed in almost all lyme healing books. Good luck—the naturopathic doc’s in the US are open to mino and low dose naltrexone—and some RA docs too.

Hi Cecilia - There are many alternatives that may be able to work with RA. But other than Minocycline, and from what I have heard, Naltrexone, there is little that can be done without risking damage. Diet can do a lot (as Deb said above), grains can cause issues - especially those containing gluten. Many people are lactose intolerant as well, and packaged foods are problematic if you don't watch the ingredients. As HH said, search the site using the box at the right top. and good luck with what you decide to try..

I've noticed that about gluten and lactose will be taking action. Thank you for the advise!

That's awesome to hear! I personally never met anyone young with RA and pregnant so always wondered. Thanks.

Might be an idea for you to look into LDN. A nontoxic alternative that many have used with good results and have been able to cut down on medication. Here is a link that will tell you about LDN.
