Bicarbonate of soda: Is anyone using this? - NRAS
Bicarbonate of soda
I saw the Daily Mail article about this last week.
dailymail.co.uk/health/arti...
If it helps in the slightest well I suppose that’s good news, but what really annoyed me is that they put that people suffering from it manage the agonising pain with over the counter meds such as asprin......I wish!!! Thought it really trivialised the condition,
Sprouts mabe!!!!
It would be great if something so simple and cheap could really make a difference wouldn't it. However, I would need reliable evidence and want to know any risks re other existing ailments before taking it for 'health' so it will stay as a household cleaner, for now .
Yes, half a teaspoon makes my dumplings rise a treat!
I'm giving it a go, and I'm adding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar into the mix. I've been flaring just recently, and I have a rheumatology appt at the end of June, so i thought i'd try it until then to see if there is any difference. i'm also taking a probiotic, turmeric and omega 3, with SSZ and HCQ. There does seem to be a link between gut health and autoimmune conditions, so I figure I've got nothing to lose! Be careful if you have high blood pressure though, as the bicarb can affect it.
It's an old 'remedy' & if it works for you then I don't see it can do any harm. It has an unfortunate effect on me, though is good for cleaning fridge.
Thanks for all the household tips!!!!
Umm, although I live in OZ, I’m a vaper and member of vapers.org.uk. Any Dailymail stories are automatically sent to the News/Bollocks section - to be taken with a grain of salt.
If this works for some people, I’m happy for them, cheers
And that is the best place for most Daily Mail articles, however this particular story was widely reported following the release of a peer-reviewed study that was published in The Journal of Immunology.

The full article is locked behind a paywall. Have you read it? Because widely reported is a bit of a misnomer, when the article is not freely available, In the “Daily’s” case, it often means making things up from the Abstract - and others follow on, or Vice Versa, in the Daily’s case 😆
No I haven’t read the full paper, but the point I was making is that the story didn’t originate from the Daily Mail so couldn’t be discounted on that basis.
I can’t actually remember the specific article I read but it had quotes from the author of the paper explaining the study and the results (so not just lifted from the abstract).
I’m not commenting specifically on the study or the use of soda bicarbonate, just pointing out the source (or maybe sauce 😀).
I use a bicarbonate solution with a small drop of tea tree oil to rinse my eye lids to keep them clear from blepharitis and it works for that - process was recommended by my ophthalmologist treating my blepharospasm and dry eye.
