Hi mrsmerl,

Your question is quite random.

Have you heard or read something about this mixture?

Read it's anti-inflammatory.

Bicarb is a good acidity regulator, clears bad smells too. I use it mixed in water to clean the fridge but never taken it for RD. If you're thinking about trying it do ask if it's advisable as it can interact with some meds by affecting absorption & not good if you have kidney problems either. I think naproxen is one you shoudn't take with it but as with anything always best to check with your GP or Rheumy, even for things like store cupboard ingredients which may on the surface seem harmless.

It's not something I would risk.

I've read it's very good for inflammation. Actually tried it once, but keep forgetting so can't say if has an effect on me. I don't think it would be harmful though.

There’s a huge RA Facebook page, mostly people from the US. Some of them madly advocate borax. Crazy and I think you may have seen that? Dangerous too and the posts are generally removed by admin. I’ve never heard of bicarb being any good though. I wouldn’t imagine it would do anything much. Burp perhaps 😊

Having just done a quick google search, there is something in this it appears. Reputable sites explain that it has an effect on the spleen and the cells. Making the body more alkaline. There is a codicil, it can raise the blood pressure. Interesting.

Actually I think it was helpful for me. Not as helpful as cutting out oats and wheat from the food reaction test. Also has been used to protect against kidney damage. Don't take it long term, but if I feel some uncomfortableness in my ankles, then I will take some of this.

It's a valid idea that is attracting research. Baking soda seems to switch macrophages from an inflammatory to an anti-inflammatory state. Which is obviously rather exciting, for such a simple, cheap compound. Studies show some very interesting results. Long way from being an actual treatment for autoimmune disease, but if you google, there are lots of studies. Here's one.

I would imagine it would be unlikely to do any harm to try it.

Thank you for sharing that link, I will start taking small amount on a daily basis. Drinking lot's of Licorice tea also works for me. Besides that I take Pred. 2.5 /D and 10 Mtx/W

Cheers

Wow!! I hope something comes of it.

I was looking for anything to stop the pain. I tried this for over a month. Everyday took 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda every morning. Was praying it would work since nothing else really does.

I can tell you, this old wives tale did not work for me at all.

Predinose really works but after being on it for over a year at high doses I now have cushing syndrome and wish I never took the prednisone, but it really did take away the pain!

Finally forcing myself to reduce and after several months (6 months) reduced to 5mg per day from 20mg.

My RA dr really messed me up!

I have taken it for indigestion when I have run out of Rennies and it does work for that.

Yes my dad used to always take it for indigestion, the face he made whilst taking it made me think it was quite horrible.

Not what you're looking for?
